I’m a chemical engineer at a top 20 university looking at going into IP law (or maybe another type of law honestly, I’m still figuring it out)!
I’m not sure what kinds of law schools I could hope to get into or if my application will be reasonably strong if I apply without going into industry for a year first.
I have a 3.74 GPA (3.84 major GPA) and I just started my LSAT prep and scored 163 on my diagnostic.
I don’t really have any law extracurricular experience, but I am pretty involved in my engineering extracurriculars.
I would really love to go to UMich as I am from the state, but I’m not sure if that’s reasonable or if there are other options I should be considering.
Study hard for.the LSAT and repost after you get your score. A 163 is a good start but a bit low for the top law schools (including UM.where the median is 169).
i’d work on grades this year and graduate. take the LSAT after graduation. With hard prep, you can get up to 17x, and not only will that significantly increase your chances at UM, but merit money at other top schools.
How about UC Berkeley law? Keep working on the lsat till you can consistently score about 170. You might want to consider patent law just because the additional barrier to entry (patent bar exam)is beneficial when it comes time to secure employment.
