Need some advice and help.

Hey guys. I've been reading most of the threads here for about a month now and need some advice.

I did the SAT on dec 1st and got the results today. I got a 1490. I personally thought I was going to do better and I was really sick during that week. I live in Canada and was thinking of going to the US to study. I'm also an international student (moved to canada 2 years ago). I just wanted to know whether or not its a good mark and whether I should re-write or not. Is it too late to re-write? If I re-write a month from now will universities still accept my application? Also, would it be better if I just did the ACT?

I really need help on this. Any advice is greatly appreciated..

Is your score 1490 out of 2400 or 1600? You need to check with the schools you are applying to and see if they take Jan. SAT's. If it's out of 1600 I don't think you should retake. If you retake in January, that's not a lot of time to study and raise your score. I would probably try the ACT if you want to retest so soon but the next ACT is Feb. Again, you would have to check with your schools to see if they would accept Feb ACT.

Its out of 2400. I did a practice one on my own and got over 1800 and was expecting to do well on this one but messed up big time. I'm extremely worried. But is there a chance that there's a sort of scale or something seeing that I'm international?.

you should check w/ the schools youre applying to and see if they accept scores after their deadlines -- some do, some dont

I don't think most universities relax their standards for internationals. However, if english is not a first language, they may be more understanding of a lower critical reading score. However, your scores should still be close to the averages for a school.
