Need some basic info. on applying to colleges

Hey guys. I've obviously never applied to a major university, and I was wondering what I needed to do and what I needed material, transcript, etc. wise. I'm going to be entering college in the fall 2011 semester, and I have no idea how to apply, what to do after applying, or anything.

Here's the deal:

I come from a EXTREMELY small town in MS (pop. 2,500)
I go to a school with 175 high school students.
There are only 15 people in my class, including me.
I will be either Valedictorian or Salutatorian (it'll come down to several tenths).
I will have taken all pre-requisite high school courses.
By high school graduation (May 2011), I will have taken two college classes (Comp I and Comp II).
ACT of 32.

Now my questions are:

When should I look to apply?
When I apply, do I include all of the extracurricular activities that I was a part of.
When I apply, should I have documentation of these ECs?
Do I apply for honors college separately?
Do I apply for honors college after or before getting accepted?
What do I need in terms of transcripts?
How do I send my ACT scores to colleges? Just call ACT and tell them to send to X college?
When do I apply for scholarships? When do I apply for scholarships the school gives, after or before getting accepted?
Do I mention the college credits I will have by the time I graduate?

I'm sure I will have more questions, but any help will be much appreciated.

Search some threads, this should be a good start

ACT scores can be sent via online. Most of your other questions can be answered on the particular college website which provides a list of deadlines and needed app material on their admissions page or FAQ section.

The hardest part of the application process is that each university has completely different procedures for applying. For some of the larger state schools with rolling admission, you can apply now, but others open the application window up later. Except for the common app. schools, each application is different, with different essays. Keep good records to stay on top of your applications and deadlines, and ask for teacher recommendations EARLY. Good luck!

Now my questions are:
**
When should I look to apply?**

Now you should determine where you should apply. You’ll apply in the fall. You can work on essays now…

**
When I apply, do I include all of the extracurricular activities that I was a part of.**

Usually only those that you did for awhile. Not a super long and boring laundry list.

**
When I apply, should I have documentation of these ECs?**

Not really. Students self-report.

Do I apply for honors college separately?

Usually schools have separate apps for Honors Colleges.

Do I apply for honors college after or before getting accepted?

Depends on the school’s rules. My sons’ school has kids apply to honors AFTER acceptance. But, other schools are different.

**
What do I need in terms of transcripts?**

Turn in a transcript request form to your school. THEY know what to send.

How do I send my ACT scores to colleges? Just call ACT and tell them to send to X college?

Order them online…or if you retest, you can list 4 free schools.

When do I apply for scholarships? When do I apply for scholarships the school gives, after or before getting accepted?

For some schools, you apply around the same time that you applied to the school.

Do I mention the college credits I will have by the time I graduate?

You can mention dual enrollment credits or AP credits.

We can probably help you more if you answer the following…

**1) What are your stats?

2) Do you know how much your parents will pay each year for college? If you don’t know, then ask. That info will likely determine where you should apply.

3) What is your likely major and career?**

wow, thanks so much for the info.

1) What are your stats?

2) Do you know how much your parents will pay each year for college? If you don’t know, then ask. That info will likely determine where you should apply.

3) What is your likely major and career?

What do you mean by stats?

My parents have already said that they will pay whatever it takes. I already know that I qualify for many presidential scholarships which cover tuition and what not, so at the most, my parents will pay $10,000.

I plan to major in Finance; actuarial science or quantitative finance and plan to be an actuary.

And I have another question. When applying, do I apply as “First time Freshman” or transfer, since I will have a couple college credits.

You will apply as a first-time freshman despite your accumulated credits. “Stats” are things like GPA and test scores that are objective ways of looking at an applicant. Numbers, essentially.
