Need some help...community college?

Hi. I'm planning on attending community college this fall and I'd like to select a major now so I can complete everything in 2-3 years time, but preferably 2. I've been thinking about majoring in geology and minoring in computer science, PLUS completing some amount of pre-reqs for pharmacy school (I will continue these pre-reqs when I transfer to a state school). Do you think this is do-able with only 12 credits/semester?

24 credits a year plus 6 if you do summers… no not at all. To do that you need to take take 15+ fall and spring and 10+ every summer to have a chance at doing all that in 3 years and it will take another semester to do your pre reqs if your classes dont overlap, with a minor it will take atleast a semester of classes to complete it. So all and all, if you want to go through really bad stress and no part time job… you can do it in 3 1/2-4 1/2 years. Assuming your major, minor.and pre reqs equate to roughly 156 credit hours (124 for major, 4-8 for pharmacy pre reqs that dont overlap with major and 24 for minor

I would drop the minor, no reason to go through (usually) another semester for something that will not really benefit you

(unless you are just taking an associates degree than it is very possible to do it even with your pre reqs)

Thanks. What if I drop the minor and just go for the associate’s + the pre-reqs?

about 80-90 credit hours depending on school. easy to do in 2 1/2 to 3 years if you do summers.

@Ultimablade‌ Do you mean 3 yrs in CC? This so depends on the CC and the articulation agreement with the four year. How many of the prereqs are available at the CC?

you will need to be at cc at the least, because 12 units though full time, is not enough to get you out of cc quicklyy.
usually it takes 2 years for 12 units a semester to transfer. you will have to take 15 units plus the maximum allowed for summer which is usually 6-8 units, 10 units is just asking for trouble. so you will be done with cc in 1.5 years. and you will end up with 60-70 transferrable units, which is the only amounts allowed. So some GE and core classes may not be finished by the time you transferred. You will find out that some classes are more impacted than others, and are difficult to get in, there usually a long waiting line for classes, so that may delay your major. especially with a minor.
. He means 3.5 years possible, if you can transfer to a 4 year instiuition with around 60-70 units. then you will have to take upper division courses required for your major, everything you take in CC is LOWER division, including your GE courses and core classes for your major. I would advise a different major if your are going for pharmacy school, depending on what competition level is or if they care which major it is, it should be somewhere in the biological sciences, cell/molecular, chemistry, biochemistry, these will give you a broader understanding in the nature of biological system, and chemical interactions, important for pharmacy(maybe).
science majors technically take 4+years to complete, its not as easy as writing, or business majors, where its possible to finish in 3 years, 2 years is an associate degree.
we dont know what school you are going to and which one you want to transfer to.
15+units plus the maximum for summer is the only way.
