Need the best undergraduate college for pre-med?

<p>I have a 4.0 GPA, average SAT scores, etc etc. I'm planning to apply for quite some prestigious colleges that also, of course, are quite expensive. </p>

<p>My question is: should I apply to schools that are not quite at my academic level, but that I know I could get hefty scholarships in? Do medical schools (not necessarily prestigious..just any medical school) care about which school you go to for undergrad, or do they just care about your college GPA/MCAT score? </p>

<p>If GPA only matters, then shouldn't I just apply for a "lesser" school and get a huge scholarship?</p>
