Need to come up with a list

I don't know where to apply. I want to stay in the Northeast.

So far my list includes UVM (instate), Dartmouth, and Cornell. I don't really think I have a preference but I would like a school that is in an area that is not too rural. I need to apply to 12 others schools in all tiers.

1.) "Not too rural" should rule out Dartmouth.

2.) Boston and NYC have a ton of schools in all tiers.

3.) I don't know what the tiers for you are, since you don't provide us with any other information.

It's easier for students in my state to get into Dartmouth.

Does anyone know where I can get the med school rankings from the past year? I'm refering to the US News rankings for primary care and research that includes all of the med schools, not just the ones provided online.

http://www.amazon.com/Medical-School-Admission-Requirements-2007-2008/dp/1577540492

USN only discusses the top 62 in each field, and they overlap by enough that there's probably only 90 of the 128 schools on there.

Yeah I have that book. I just need the rankings.

Variation in schools is too diverse to be well-captured by a set of rankings, and in any case -- are you going to really find a difference between the #75 and #87 school?

I'm getting way too confused. I only applied to 4 schools when I was in HS. I've picked three med schools but I can't really choose the other 12. Any suggestions?

You need to pick them based on what you want from a school and what you think you can offer them. So far you've told us only one thing: geography. There's not a lot we can tell you if that's all we're working with.

fudgemaster, its would help us out if you name specifics like:

Geography

Grading system (pass/fail, letter)

Systems based modules or traditional lectures

PBM (even though most have some form of it)-how much of it would you want

class size

your stats

potential specialty of interest (even if might change)

lecture recorded?

rural vs. urban medicine

State of residency?

...cant think of anything else now.

11.) Research emphasis

URM or/and disadvantage

Cost Range?

Oh, #13 is huge. Good catch.

As a side note, once you determine all these things you're looking for in a medical school, a very good way to pick prospective schools is by looking at the MSAR.

Geography - Northeast

Grading system (pass/fail, letter) no preference

Systems based modules or traditional lectures what's the difference

PBM (even though most have some form of it)-how much of it would you want- dunno what that is

class size arent most the same?

your stats-haven't taken mcats but around but +3.8 gpa at cornell

potential specialty of interest (even if might change) i'm majoring in neurobio

lecture recorded? it would be nice

rural vs. urban medicine-more urban

State of residency?

URM or/and disadvantage?-i dunno

Cost Range?-dunno

the problem is i don't have that much time to fill the app out. i'm currently working fulltime at a lab
i think what i want is a list of schools based on selectivity.

[quote]
"No preference", "What's the difference", "Dunno what that is", "Aren't most the same?", "________", "I dunno", "dunno".

You can imagine that we really can't help you much.

How would you like to measure selectivity?

Applying based on selectivity is one of the biggest mistakes you can make in planning your future. Check with your pre-med adviser to pick schools students in your school have been admitted with your grades and scores. It's certainly a good idea to apply to schools of varying selectivity, but it is not if you are blindly applying purely based on admit rates alone.

I'd also like to add accreditation, teaching hospitals, and student body to ASMAJ's list.
