Hey, just wondering - I need to get a credit card around campus and I don't have a job but I can use my parents as cosigners. I mean, I'm looking for a job - it's just hard! I've had my own checking/savings account for a few years at a local bank back home, and I just opened an account with UFCU. What say you all about getting one? Where as far as inter city Austin??

Also, I'm needing this for education/living reasons. Not gonna go on a shopping binge!

Get a debit card instead. Any bank should offer you one. That will allow you to use it wherever VISA is accepted, but it will be tied to your checking account and not allow you to go into debt. Its a much better option!!

My daughter found it easy to get a Discover card (with a fairly low spending limit) with a parent as a co-signer. If you know you will be using it fairly rarely and paying it off regularly, it can help you build your credit rating, which might be helpful to you in the future.

For my son, he just has one of the cards that my husband and me use. We just had the company send us an extra card with my son’s name on it. I think it is helpful to have one when you are on a trip.

Thank you Moms!

I already have a debit card! I just need a credit card to get me started on living independently and paying rent while I find a job asap! I’m on the hunt!

I’ll definitely talk to my mom and see what she says about maybe putting me on a credit card from her account else I’ll just see what Discover can do for me so I can start establishing good credit.

Hmm. So much to do!
