I was wondering if anybody knows if I need to submit the FAFSA to be considered for the presidential scholarship? I will get the National Merit Finalist full tuition award, but do not qualify for fin aid. I really want to be considered for this scholarship. Thanks.
Please search for the discussion on CC from last year’s application cycle. My daughter was awarded the full tuition semi finalist award last year. We were told we had to complete the FAFSA and the CSS to be considered for this award even though we didn’t qualify for FA. I would email the FA and admissions offices and see what they have to say. Good luck!
When I looked at the website a while back I realized that the scholarship was not automatic, but I still suspect I would get it (otherwise I would have no chance at the Presidential Scholarship!). Fingers-crossed. It’s okay if I don’t recieve it though. Lol I applied to another 7-8 colleges that I have a slight possibility of getting a full-ride at.
My daughter’s a national merit semifinalist and will be applying to fordham. I will call this week and ask about the aid forms. We are in the same boat as in not asking for need based aid.
It is strange, because the Fordham website only seems to say that for renewal one needs to do FAFSA and TAP for NEw Yorkers but it doesnt say what is required upon applying? @PepperJo , @Eeyore123 , did your kids wind up getting the scholarships and going?
My understanding is you need to fill out the FASFA to actually collect the award, but you will still be considered for merit and NM during the app process without the FASFA… should you decide you want to attend Fordham, then fill out the FASFA.
When my D17 applied to Fordham three years ago, I emailed her admissions rep and asked about whether merit aid could be awarded without filing the FAFSA. The answer was not definitive, but we did not file the FAFSA. She was given a merit award (not the Presidential). When she decided to attend Fordham, we had to file the FAFSA, but not the CSS, so that she could claim her award.

Hi, my daughter applied EA to Fordham @Rose Hill. She was awarded the semi-finalist/National Hispanic Scholar award when she received her acceptance last December. D received an email a few weeks before her acceptance saying she needed to submit the FAFSA and CSS even though we did not apply for financia aid. . After several communications with admissions, we went ahead and filled them out anyway, as they said merit scholarships required them. My D ended up going to her ED school on a full tuition award instead (that decision came out a few days after Fordham’s).
