Chance me For UCLA

How do i make my application stronger ?

Please Help me out ..

chances are pretty slim. sorry to break it to you

^agreed.

dude- accept advice. less than 90% for an indian applying to UCLA- not happening. the UCs really care about school grades (or marks in your case). 3 indians i know directly heading from india to UCLA this year- 93%, 92% and 95% scorers!! even if you had out-of-the-world-ECs, wouldn’t help much with the UCs… and to tell ya the truth, these certainly aren’t very wow-inducing ECs.

look at schools within your reach and FOCUS on them!! i know 70%ers who made it UIUC- so look there. UCLA looks highly unlikely. i’m sorry if i sound harsh- but i’m just being truthful- cuz you’re probably not on CC to hear sugar-coated crap, you obviously want some solid advice and i’m giving it to you. UCLA=probably not happening.

as for making your application stronger- it’s pretty late to pull up your grades now (UCs consider all 4 years). as for the other schools, i’d push up those SATs, get good recs (UCs don’t care about recs either) and write FANTASTIC essays!! :)

oh- and dude… another thing- i’ve seen you in like 4 sub-forums now… see, the thing is- if some american or whoever else who’re unaware of the indian system DO tell you that you stand a decent/good chance (i know you quoted someone who said you had a chance at stanford and cornell in another thread of yours), it DOESN’T help you!! really- just having someone tell you that you’ll end up at oxford or cambridge or harvard or MIT or UCLA or whatever won’t help you (unless the person’s the director of admissions)! so yeah- and if you do want realistic chances- try asking in TiT (the indian thread) they’re a friendly bunch there- but the chance-responses CAN be harsh! why? well- cuz college admissions for internationals (indians and chinese especially, cuz well- there’re just too many of us- blame lack of rubber, overly good looking ladies to ermm… “attract” the men or whatever else!) ARE HARSH!

Be realistic, but don’t lose all your hopes though. It’s still worth trying the go.

@bzsc01- i agree… but then again, it doesn’t make sense for someone who’s likely to be wichita state standard to apply to harvard! (though i’m obviously exaggerating the differences). i’d suggest he apply to places he has a higher chance at… cuz 59% (that’s around 10 percentile for average to good indian schools)- and FOCUS on them… applying to one or two dream schools like UCLA or whatever wouldn’t harm though…

Yea, your chances are slim. The School of Engineering is also one of the most competitive schools at UCLA (meaning a lot of applicants apply, and few gets in), and frankly your grades won’t impress the top UCs. Especially since you’re an international, your chances are slimmer than those who are in state with the same level of grades as you.

Chances aren’t too fancy, I have to agree…But if you really…REALLY…(come on really :P)…want to attend UCLA, you better write a damn good personal statement  and SERIOUSLY do you’re best and then push yourself :D.

'Cause honestly, there’s nothing much you can really do now so just keep striving and give it a shot. :D

Good luck!

my class rank is 8 out of 50 for grade 11 … will it help me … coz the grade 11 paper is usually very tough … nd students dont care to study as most of them study in india …
