Need Your Opinion Please & Leadership Positions

Hi all,

I was looking for some opinions on an initiative I was planning to start. I have been a part of the Future Educators of America since freshman year and as part of this I go to my town's K-2 school every week to help out the teachers and work with the kids. It's something I really love doing and I have recently started a paid job tutoring kids as well. I absolutely adore teaching kids and seeing the impact education has on them and was planning to start a literacy initiative at the elementary where every certain period of time the kids would have to bring in a book of their choosing, trade it with other kids and once they have finished reading it donate the book to a book donation program at my high school.

I know this is a very small scale project and not something extraordinarily impactful but do you guys think its worth the time and is something I should pursue? Leadership is not the main reason I want to do this but would this be a "good" leadership for college? Also do you guys have any other ideas for a organization that promotes or helps younger children with their education or literacy or anything related?

I was also planning to start a dance team (our school has so many dancers yet no dance team) but I know it will take a long time and a lot of planning to get started. Would that be a better use of my time in regards to leadership/ college applications?

Also any leadership position ideas would be great. I know leadership is important but I am kind of lost on ideas.

Thanks!

I think its great you’ve started to attempt some leadership positions. I think these positions are just leaders of “clubs” or extracurriculars. Many top schools will just regard them as clubs etc. if you know what I mean.

But this is crucial to the leadership part, and especially important to yourself because YOU are PASSIONATE about what you do, not to make your app look good. So congrats to you!

Dance team-go for it. Other leadership might be student gov. etc.

Thanks for responding, I think I’ll get going on trying to get a dance team! :D
