Hey all,
I know this topic has been addressed previous to my post, but I don’t feel that the question was sufficiently answered. Here is my dilemna:

I go to a private school in Southern California and live the stereotypical Socal life. I got accepted into Berkeley and UCLA and now I am totally torn between the two. I love the name of Berkeley and the supposably “life changing” experience that it offers to a conservative somewhat Republican kid like myself, but then again I am very attracted to the social scene that UCLA offers and the fact that it is in Los Angeles. I am looking to study business and political science throughout my college career. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks…

You seem to have an open mind, and coming to Berkeley could very well be a great experience for you. Just don't come expecting a posh socal environment, if that's what you really want, UCLA can give it to you.

If you get a Wash U degree and then come back to California, 97% of people will think you went to the University of Washington.

Yeah, just have an open mind, dont be afraid to use the school's resources, and find your niche. THen you'll have plenty of fun!

The social scene at UCLA is not much better than at Cal's. By "stereotypical Socal life", i feel you on that and can tell you that there are plenty of people like that here, although not so many that it is the norm. Don't forget that Berkeley is just as close to Downtown San Francisco as UCLA is to downtown Los Angeles, which doesn't compare, in my opinion. There are always invatationals and parties in the city, most by charter bus, so parties in the city here are aplenty. Football season here is like no other school in California with the exception maybe of USC, but it is still much more unique here, and you will see why. Not everyone here of course are hippies or ultra-studious, but coming to school here will definitely change your beliefs, mentally toughen you, and change you for the better, in my opinion.
