Hey all. I just got accepted off of the wait list at Wash U and I was debating going there over my original school UCLA. Specifically, I was considering something science-y, i.e. engineering although I'm open to other possibilities and interests. Do you all have an objective opinion concerning this? My thoughts are:

Wash U
-Smaller
-More opportunities for undergraduate research because of small size
-No budget cuts (huge for me, really)
-Mostly doubles for dorms

UCLA
-Higher ranked in US News and Report for the engineering school
-More social, as I have understood it
-Perceived as more prestigious than Wash U

I seem to have my heart set on Wash U because it's small and that's what my intuition is telling me to do, but I can't really rationalize my choice. Any objective opinions on the matter?

Well, I’m not going to try and debate that WUSTL is probably a better overall learning environment than UCLA; but, you should discuss your finances with your parents first. If there’s a sizable budget gap between WUSTL and UCLA, UCLA may be a more reasonable choice.

i’d go with UCLA if it’s cheaper (i.e. if you’re a california resident) if not then, by all means go to WUSTL. UCLA is still a bargain for california residents even among looming budget cuts and tuition raises, but if they cost the same i wouldn’t go there unless you really really like UCLA, and don’t really like WUSTL.

This is my opinion.
Wash U has good medical school. However, UCLA hospital ranks better than the hospital in Was U. My friend is also recently accepted from the waiting list in Wash U, she is debating going there over Berkeley’s Bio major. She said the cost in Wash U is about 52K per year. I don’t feel it is worth doing that. :]

If you don’t care about the money then WUSTL is better quality than UCLA probably. I say probably because both are amazing and you get what you make of each but WUSTL will get you further for doing less work.
