Needs help to get there

Hey guys, I'm new here. Nice to meet you all.

First a little back story. I am 23 years old and didn't take school seriously until my last year of high school, which is truly unfortonate. After that I went to trade school for Plumbing, but soon realized that it wasn't what I wanted.

For a few years I decided to hold and mature as a person, and to see what it was that I really wanted to do with my life. Now I'm quite sure, and I applied for online classes at Liberty University. However, to my surprise, the courses are not challenging. Yes it requires a lot of reading, but critical thinking isn't really there.

I just moved to Queens and discovered that NYU has an exceptional Psychology Graduates Program. Now I'm not entirely sure what I want to do, but it's definitely in the field of Psychology. But to get there... I don't know how to set my self up for grad school.

I'm not trying to paint a poor picture of myself, but from a family where no one went to college, it's difficult to get the help and guidance I need to help me be successful. I'm just beginning to realize that this can change the outcome for me and a possible family in the future. I really don't want to fudge it.

If any of you could help me, even give me some direction, then I would be extremely grateful. Thank you all.

Grad schools look for a good job experience and good performance from your previous university. Look up NYU’s graduate school requirements (for your specific program) and see whether or not you even qualify for it academically. Then, see what they look for as an applicant since they most likely will tell you online.

In terms of work experience, how much do you have? You should build up some sort of resume before coming into grad school.
