I tried searching for a thread along these lines but could not readily find one, so my question is:

Does anyone have any experience negotiating aid offers from need-blind schools (HYPS et al.) when one or more of the schools has made a better offer?

What about negotiations when all have made a similar offer but all were similarly low :)?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure exactly what you would be expecting to "negotiate" if all the offers were similarly low. If all of the schools compute your need for institutional funds to be low...it probably IS low. These schools have very generous institutional financial aid policies. My guess is that if your award was low, there is not demonstrated need. They give need based aid only.

You would have to PROVE (and provide documentation to support) that your need was in excess of what was provided on the financial aid application forms.

Yes, but it's not a negotiation, rather you request a review or reevaluation of your FA package. Mention that other peer (or higher) schools gave better FA packages and they will probably ask you to FAX them copies of the offers. They will get back to you once they've reviewed your information.

Agree with thumper that if all the schools were low, you likely can't do anything unless there's been a change in your financial status since you filed your Profile.
