@SwimmingDad, did you negotiate the financial aid?
I’m a junior and want to apply UVM next year. However, the cost is also a concern. I’m also OSS and the cost will be prohibitive - 20k a year according to Net Calculator (if I keep up my grades that is - I’m really struggling this junior year and there have been a dip in my overall grades compared to last year. I’ve been trying my hardest though!) I live with a single mom who houseclean for living, and even though she saved 20k for me that’s only enough to cover the first year. I really want to attend UVM. I’m really interested in taking permaculture courses. Is there anything else they can offer me?
@ILikePlants As a current senior who recently decided to attend a small private school over UVM (OOS) and the University of Oregon (in-state), my biggest advice to you is to apply to UVM as well as many other schools. I applied to 10 schools, got accepted to 8, and ended up with three that would be possible for my family to pay for without loans. Last summer I really had my heart set on UVM, but after touring some other schools, I realized that there were other places that I could be happy as well. My net price for UVM was about 25k and my net price for the school that I am attending (Pacific Lutheran University) is only 13.5k. I ended up falling in love with PLU, which made my decision to avoid going into thousands of dollars of debt for UVM much easier. Keep UVM on your radar but also keep your mind open to other options and something is sure to work out! Good luck!
@OnEdge2021 My S decided on McGill which was by far our least expensive option. So, no negotiating for us this year. I’ll get another shot at it in two years with my younger S.
@SwimmingDad, I hear ONLY wonderful things about McGill. Wishing your son a great year. Be well every one.
Thank you, @OnEdge2021. My son is very excited for McGill. And now his younger brother wants to go there as well…but that will be more of a stretch. (They literally base it on grades and ACT/SAT scores. Nothing else matters!) Be well!
