Negotiating for scholarships help any advice (should i do this)

I was accepted into the school i want to attend , but the problem is I got no money. As an out of state student, there is no possible way I could go this school without some scholarships and I am certain that I will not get any fasa
My question is Should I call up my school and try to ask if there is any way I could get some scholarship or tuition reduction.(unsure if this is pointless or if i should try for it)(also thought with my stats might get something)
And if so How should I go about it
School is University of South Carolina

USoCarolina would have awarded you a merit scholarship if your stats are strong for the school and you applied by their scholarship deadline. Did you?

What are your test scores and GPA and when did you apply?

Did you apply to South Carolina before the December 1 deadline to be considered for scholarship?

Looks like your stats are too low for merit. Your SAT is about an ACT 25, and your GPA is modest for the school

my stats 3.54 and 1260 sat super score, but I was personally curious because i know of people with lower stats, who obtained merit scholarship

Many schools do NOT superscore for merit.

The lowest level OOS merit offered says this:

Annual value: $500 + tuition reduction
Four-year value with tuition reduction: $36,600

In 2016, recipients of the Sims Scholars Award had an average SAT score of 1237 (ACT score of 28) and an average weighted high school GPA of 3.71. Recipients of this award also receive a significant tuition reduction.

The average recipient had an average of 1237 (so really about a 1240)…AND a GPA of 3.71

Others that you heard about may be instate, or may have rec’d a talent or dept award.

e 2017 freshman applicant pool is one of our most competitive applicant pools on record, and we carefully allocated scholarships in accordance with our scholarship budget and institutional enrollment goals.

This year’s application pool is stronger than last year’s.

Usually, out of state students have to pay full fees because the in-state schools are paid for by the residents of that state.

I don’t think your chances are good that you will get any aid. You can call their financial aid department and ask if you would qualify for any private funding. Usually, these are not big enough “dollars” to cover your tuition and R&B.

Did you apply to any affordable colleges?

South Carolina has several scholarships for out of state students. They are awarded based on the strength of your application.

When my kid applied in 2005, she got her scholarship right after her acceptance. But that was when SC had rolling admissions…and I don’t think that is the case now.

You can call admissions and ask if scholarship awards have been sent. They will tell you.

Here is the list of scholarships for OOS

I agree with @mom2collegekids , the applicant pool has become extremely competitive over the past few years especially as more families search for merit money. Automatic merit at a lot of schools is pretty straight forward - you either meet the minimum cut-offs or you don’t. However, many schools that used to give automatic scholarships have now shifted to competitive scholarships , where they may be looking at the whole student.

Do you have any affordable options?

What is your home state?

How much have your parents stated they are willing to pay/borrow for college?

Are you in a state that participates in the academic common market? Check Www.Sreb.org.

If you are coming from a participating southern state, There are tuition discounts for specialized majors. It’s a long shot but worth a look.

If you like South Carolina, coastal Carolina is still accepting applications until April 15. It is cheaper OOS and might have merit money for your stats.
