I was going over easy real SAT writing “identify the error” problems with a student and two of those she missed in one assignment were neither/nor. The student is not a native English speaker and nor is often not used informal speech. I wonder whether this should be emphasized so much.
She just needs to remember that neither is used with nor.
I will make sure she remembers it, but it seems like a lot of emphasis on something fairly trivial.
Yeah, but the more she knows better prepared for the test she will be.
Of course, but the point of my post was 2-fold. The neither/nor rule is real important to learn for the test. It is questionable that they would emphasize something like that, as there are more important issues in writing.
Neither goes with nor; either goes with or. There’s a lot of trickier things they could throw at you. Just learn the rule and go with the flow. If it was too hard, no one could score well on it.
