Finally found a Nepali thread but I feel sorry for the thread cause no one posts. And affable, samrachana which colleges are you going to or still in the hectic process of applying.
And yeah I am from Nepal going to US this fall.
Which colleges are everyone heading for? Any fortunates got to HYP? :D:D:D:D:(:(:(:):):)

happy to get our forum revived!

Hey affable,
Are you going anywhere this yr?
And Porkey
you applying to which colleges? May be we can be of some help. Are you from BNKS or Stxc.

And this CC is addictive.

Come on let's make this thread the longest one in CC. We need to beat the Indians.

Yup i'm applyin fo 2007 fall and im from stxc. i'm lookin abt 50-60 collos in us but will be applyin only in abt 16-17.

40 collos dat i've saved in collegeboard.com are:
* Boston U
* Brigham Young
* Brown U
* Cal Tech
* Columbia U Fu Found.
* Cornell U
* Dartmouth C
* Duke U
* Gettysburg C
* Harvey Mudd C
* Illinois Inst Tec
* Johns Hopkins U
* Lafayette C
* Lehigh U
* Marquette U
* MIT
* Northwestern U IL
* Princeton U
* Rensselaer Polytec I

* Worcester Polytec I
* Yale U
* Yeshiva U

I have to sort out abt 20 4rm dis list to apply which i'm doin only afta my sats 1-2 exams.

It seems like you are going for Engineering. You'll find an EC for MIT with whom you can have an interview, so that way you can have an edge over the ones who don't get themselves interviewed. You can collect the info about the EC from me. Also I suggest you include some safeties and LACs with 3-2 programs in engineering. You'll have a great experience. And yes, Northwestern does not take fee waivers from internationals applying for aid. Be careful. And for more chatpata infos. from me keep writing. As I said, this thread should go on like nuts.

So Buddhaforever can u give me infos on EC 'n interviews, but MIT is ultra reach for me n have least hope. Illinois In Tech,WPi, UDayton, Lafayette & other few i've considered as safeties.

Porkey, what is your SAT score or how much do you hope to strike?

Lafayette as safety??? Can't be if you are applying for aid. Some guy got to WPI but got very little aid (have to pay around $28k)

And given the fact that you are also looking into colleges like Duke, Princeton, Cal tech you should definitely apply to MIT. Instead leave out Cornell. They'll give youadmission but are not generous with the aid but MIT is.

Ok. to help you out let me shorten your list to my liking (I assume you have good academic record and have good SATs):

Brigham Young (very cheap)

Brown U

Columbia U Fu Found.

Dartmouth C (gives good aid. way too good than cornell for that matter). Cornell however might be the best among the Ivies for engineering.

Gettysburg C (apply EA. they like it)

Harvey Mudd C

Illinois Inst Tec

Lafayette C (apply ED I)

Marquette U

MIT (applyt EA (early action) it is not EASC)

Northwestern U IL (apply with the fee and apply for financial aid. you never know. Not many will have had applied there because they don't take waivers)

Princeton U (need blind)

Rensselaer Polytec I (difficult to get but a gr8 engineering school)

Rice U (tough with financial sid)

Stanford U (worth a try)

Swarthmore C (probably the best among LACs)

Syracuse U

Trinity C (CT) (apply ED)

Tufts U (very difficult with aid. these big universities rarely offer good aid to all the intels)

U Dayton

U Miami

U Notre Dame

U Pennsylvania (don't apply. you already got too many ivies. Or get rid of some other ones. you'll want to do some more research)

U Rochester

U Southern Calif

U Virginia

Vanderbilt U

Washington U St. L. ( apply to this or Northwestern)

Worcester Polytec I

Yale U (again too many Ivies)

Yeshiva U ( no need based aid)
I don't find much safeties in the list. Don't take lafayette as one of the safeties. It will be a big mistake. They will have space only for a few intels asking for aid.

Finally you will like to look at University of Scranton. The plan should be to apply for merit based scholarship and apply EA during November. This is the only way they will assist you financially if you are an international. Add some more LACs.

i hope everyting has been helpful. If not write again.

MIT (applyt EA (early action) it is not EASC)
[/quote]
you can't apply EA to MIT if you're an international

My EC from MIT asked me whether I wanted to apply EA. I was all ready to apply EA and had a date fixed for an interview. Even I thought EA was not for internationals and asked him many times. He said I could, but at the last minute I had to pull out because of low SAT scores. I applied Regular then.

I'm targetin >2100 in oct 14, if i didn't accomplish it i'll do it again.Sat 2 in Nov.4. EA or ED for me only if I luckily get high score in oct. otherwise all RD(dat i'm not wishin). Buddha.., u gave too many ED options i'm confused but thanx for all dat explanations and can u give me some of da safeties dat u have considered, pls tell me more abt mit ea - whom to contact, where, how ...blah..blah..

Is there any mistake in applyin to too many ives ?? and when did this UPenn become ivy.(or is this 1 too ??)
"Washington U St. L. ( apply to this or Northwestern)" - Why ??
i didn't find much LACs with engineering can u guys help me in findin some ??

With too many Ivies or the Elites you will cut short the colleges you are more suited to and are more likely to get into. Also you will not have enough space for safeties.
You can apply ED twice if you are rejected or deferred by the ED 1 college. And the good news for you is that ED can be applied even at the time you apply for RD. It would be called ED 2.
LACs will generally not have an engineering course. Many will but in collaboration with universities.

"Washington U St. L. ( apply to this or Northwestern)" - Why ??

Because they rank the same and with so many top colleges already in your list you should remove some of the names from the list. And why Northwestern? as i said * Northwestern U IL (apply with the fee and apply for financial aid. you never know. Not many will have had applied there because they don't take waivers).
Upenn is in the Ivy league.

As for the EA of MIT you will need to PM me because this information was given to me by the school which I cannnot publish like this for general viewing.
