Being on this forum got me thinking about this...obviously everyone who is on here is a "nerd" to some extent so I so don't mean that in a bad way. But, I am referring to the people on here and elsewhere who constantly feel the need to prove and point out their intellectual superiority (i.e. correcting others' grammar, talking down to them...).

Anyway, I always had seen it as the others being mean to/picking on the nerds. On here, though, I have realized it is the complete opposite. The self-proclaimed more intelligent ones always seem to be talking down to someone (ie:me). I'm just wondering, is this how it is at Cornell? I've heard that is tends to be really cliquey...I think I can be friends with anyone...but I don't know that everyone feels that way?

when i visited cornell has a lot of nerds, so let's get that out of the way. i saw a lot of people walking around alone/ eating lunch alone so i dont knwo how cliquey it is. i mean, it's an ivy league school you aren't going to find like extremely hot people (go to miami university of ohio for that lol). obviously most people on this discussion board are nerds and it reminds me that im a typical stupid dumb blonde :P and it just reminds me how i wont get into cornell b/c i feel intellectually inferior to everyone here:(

Umm ok do you want to talk about dumb blonde status?? I have ALWAYS been blonde and I am really ditzy at times...not like I TRY to be but I am not overly concerned about looking smart all the time either. So anyway, everyone always made fun of me, so a few weeks ago for my INTERVIEW, my mom suggested I dye my hair dark while I am doing all my interviews and ****...so I listened!! Now I have stupid brown hair...:-(

I'd rather be a dumb blonde than a dumb brunette!! LOL

omg my mom made me dye my hair brown too!!! she said i should b/c then people would take me more seriously but i haven't really seen that lol so i might as well dye it back

I would think you wouldn't have to worry about it too much, yeah unfortunately there will be the person when you say good will say its well not good at you, or the person who says you got a D, i got a 98, it was so easy, however that just means you won't be in their clique, you'll be with maybe a more fun crowd who can still get by academically. I believe there will be the cliques, and there will have to be, b/c they accept a diverse group of people, but no population can be so diverse that no opinions and demeanors overlap. If you get in you will find who you fit in with, and you will find who you don't agree with, hopefully everyone on this forum will have the chance to find their clique at Cornell.

no i don't think that everyone at cornell is nerdy
i think thats a harsh generalization to make
i know alot of nerdy people who turn out not to be so smart
and some people who are incredibly bright
but alwaysss party

As a first-year CAS student at Cornell, I've noticed that there is every type of person imaginable here, from the goth to the "dumb-blonde." Despite stereotypes, most people here are not nerds. And the rumor that Cornell girls are ugly is definitely not true (I'm a girl, but I still have seen a lot of pretty girls and hot guys around). People here are just hard-working, not nerdy (as will be evidenced by the Burberry scarves, Prada bags, etc).

most of the people who got in from my school were nerds, but one of my friends over there says the guys are attractive. unfortunately im a guy and i dont need that type of competition lol. as for ivyleaguers, idk there were 5 girls on my harvard tour that were MAD hot. yes, FIVE. out of like 8.

P.S. oooh brunette. id take a hot brunette over a hot blonde any day.
(well assuming all that other marginally important stuff like personality is the same)
