I was smart in high school. But I got by without really doing anything. When it comes to the real world, I can't figure out he simplest things. I'm a classic dumb blonde. I was valedictorian of my class and all that good stuff, but will I be in over my head when placed with a bunch of other smart kids.

maybe, but i’m sure you’re among others (most people there) who feel that way!

plus, if you’re hot, no one will care.
keep in mind you were one of the smartest kids in the world who got into cornell!

Haha, thanks, that make me feel better. But I’m anticipating having an identity crisis. I no longer get to be the nerd. I’ll just have to become pretty now, that will be my new thing. Competition shouldn’t be too fierce for women in engineering. :)

no you wont. unless you are in the worst high school ever then maybe. if you scored over 2100 on the sats and 750+ on sat IIs u’ll be fine… and pass

you’ll be fine. You’ll probably join a sorority, in which you get to exercise your dumb-blondness (not that all sorority girls are like that, i was in a sorority lol) but you will still study your a$s off during the week and nerd out at the libe before going to your mixers on the weekend.

many smart kids dont know how to do the simplest things…

they dont know how to write a letter (USPS), do laundry (hot = whites, colors = cold) and they dont know how to figure out a bus schedule (tcatbus.com)

Oh man, the laundry. I taught a few people here how to do laundry. I think the fact that a number of these kids come from wealthy families where they’ve never had to do anything for themselves plays a part in that one.

your talking about the difference between knowledge and intelligence. i’m sure if you learned how to fold clothes like you learned calculus, you’d be stellar at it. einstein didn’t even wear socks- no one’s calling him dense.

you’ll take classes, you’ll read the books, you’ll do the work, and you’ll do at least fine. wearing shirts inside out is an entirely unrelated issue.

My daughter has a friend, who is also blond, pretty, and in engineering school. She was used to getting very good grades in high school with very little studying. I think due to high demand for her socially, and bad study skills, her first year grades really suffered. Her parents threatened to pull her out. I hear she is doing better second year. We also have an agreement with our daughter - 3.5 to stay in the sorority and 3.0 for Cornell, which is quite reasonable.

You can’t be a classic dumb blond if you are a valedictorian

those are some really high standards man. the hardest of workers can only pull a 3.3 sometimes.

^ I dunno…I’ve got a 3.7…and I’m a pretty heavy slacker.

Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll be fine ^^. Just do your best.

My grades went up a lot once I joined my sorority… lol i guess i was just happier : )

No2EULA, if you’re in engineering…congrats on the achievement

Reasonable? Your daughter must be brilliant.

Technically I’m not even in CAS…I’m “Continuing Education”…But I’ll have 21 credits at the end of this semester! (hopefully the GPA will go up too!)

Didn’t someone say 3.4 is the average? I think you need min 3.5 to interview for finance jobs.

She works hard for her grades. She tells me no matter how hard she studies there are always some off the chart smart people to ruin the curve in her math classes. Her uncle makes fun of her because he graduated with a 3.9 from Cornell with math/CS majors. He thinks she must be slacking off - too much partying. This is a piece of advice he gave her, “If you see too many Asians (especially Indians), just walk out. You wouldn’t be able to beat the curve.” He is full Chinese, and my daughter is half Chinese and half French.:)

^I would say the Chinese ruin the curves the most.

LOL
im chinese and when i see a class full of asians, i know it wont be easy -.-. one of my classes consists of mostly asians and now i realize that the average is a A not because teh class is easy, its because everyone does so well… the class isn’t curved =\ i keep getting below average hahaha!

are any of the classes/exams curved where there have to people who fail the class and people who get As?
