Nervous about my class of 500. Advice?

I have an intro journalism class this fall with about 500 people in it. The class is huge.

I've been told that classes that big are harder to do well in. Can anyone give some advice on how to excel in a class that large?

Also... if a class is that big, is it better to go to the professor's office hours or to see a TA if you need help?

I have never had a problem with a class that big, and I would try to get to know the person grading your papers (it’ll probably be a TA) just to see what they want in the class.

It depends on you. I do extremely well in large classes, and poorly in small ones.

Wow, I don’t think I’d like taking classes that large, but maybe that’s because I’ve gotten used to the intimate settings of most CC classes.

You should try to make yourself known to your professor (in a good way, of course) or TA.

Larger class larger curve…

Don’t sweat it kid!

Once you actually start in the class I’m sure you’ll do fine. And a lot of people (including professors) have told me that almost no one ever goes to office hours, so it’s pretty personal. Although I’m sure that’s not true at all schools.

That is one motherfudging bigass class

^ So, since most kids don’t go to office hours, you will, if you’re smart. Have some interesting point or question to discuss. All this costs you is an occasional 10-20 minutes of your time. And, get to know the TA, too.
