Hey everyone, I have a 3.3 gpa right now I’m taking 4 classes right now which are intro to sociology, intro to psych, remedial math, and english 101. I think I’m gonna end up getting an A or at least a B+ in psych, all of my professors quizzes are online except for the final its in person but its worth 20% of our grade, and the quizzes class participation and attendance is worth 80% of our grade so I’m not worried if I fail the final because all of my quizzes has been 90 and above, we had a reflection paper and I got an A on that, I’m never absent, I don’t participate, but I think I should be fine though. Anyway, in my sociology class I got a 90 on the first quiz, a 70 on the 2nd, we just took our 3rd one yesterday I think I got an 80 or a 90 it was really easy, I got a 73% on the midterm, which means its a C. I asked my professor how I can get a B instead of a C and she said “you’ll be fine”, like how is that supposed to help me??? We have a 7 page paper due soon. I’m afraid that if I get a C in this class and lets say I get an A in psych, and a B in english will that affect my gpa? (I’m not worried about my math because it doesn’t count toward my gpa)
Based upon your proposed grade and your current GPA, you’d have a 3.075, though I don’t know how your school will calculate that.
lets say I don’t get a C in sociology, what would be my gpa then?
@julyzahxo No, not a helpful answer from the professor, but unfortunately, it’s a common one.
Are you worried about your GPA for transferring? Why a 73 on the midterm? Was it lack of studying or did you think you understood the material? Can you get some extra help at the tutoring center?
I’m guessing the paper will be a large part of your semester grade. Make sure you meet the smaller deadlines with research, outlines, etc and run them by your teacher… show him/her what you have as you make progress and ask if you are on the right path.
@Fishnlines29 yes the paper will be a large part of my semester grade, and i studied until 1:30 am for my midterm, I understand the material if I study hard enough. Yes I am worried about my gpa bc I will be transferring after I graduate, as of right now I have calculated everything out I will need 3 more semesters to go in order to graduate. So, I don’t want to ruin my chances of getting into any 4 year schools after I grad because of one C.
@julyzahxo There are plenty of 4 year schools that will accept you with one C
Look, you just have to do the best you can! Work on your study skills and study habits, maybe you just need to plan for a little more time overall on studying. This is your first year and a lot of kids struggle with time management at first, but the sooner you can lock down this skill, the better! Also, lots of students don’t get enough sleep. Getting enough sleep, eating healthy and exercising are really important too, so make sure you take care of yourself.
And for this class, just go to your professor again, maybe he/she can offer you some extra credit, but definitely don’t be afraid to approach them again or any professor. It’s good for them to see you are making every effort. Effort counts.
@Fishnlines29 ugh hopefully!! thank you so much for the advice!!
@julyzahxo You got it and just stay positive! Good luck!
