Nervous About Next Semester Course load

So right now I am planning on taking 17 credits. My classes are Orgo 2 (3 credits) with lab (2 credits), Calc 2 (4 credits), Physics 135 (4 credits) with lab (1 credits), and then a humanities course for graduation requirement (3 credits). Last semester I took Orgo 1, Calc 1, my FYWR, and an Astrology mini course, and I pledged a fraternity, and overall I thought it all was pretty easy. Is my schedule for next semester too big of a jump? If I decide that this is too much, how long do I have to drop a course, and how do I go about dropping?

It’s doable.

Physics 135 lecture is a joke if you have Lau. You can skip the final in that class if you do well on the first 3 exams. Plus half your grade is homework/i-Clicker questions, which btw he’s the first instructor I’ve ever had that shows you the poll during the i-Clicker questions (easy, free points).

Physics 136 is relatively easy. Depends on GSI but it’s only one credit anyways. Only real hw is reading the lab manual before every lab for the quizzes and all other work is done in class. Sit next to someone smart is my only advise cause all labs are with a partner.

Calc 2 is alright. I hated how like half the students in my class had already taken Calc II lol. But the grading is exactly the same as Calc 1 so all exams are based around a curve (B- I think). There’s Team HW and Webwork again and depending on GSI there may be quizzes. Just do the practice exams like in Calc I. Conceptually I can’t say how hard it is, it depends per person.

I can’t really say anything about Orgo II Lecture/Lab since I did the honors section, but from what I hear/see, grading is similar to Orgo I. Lab should be more interactive and there might be HW outside of lab (lab reports)? Conceptually Orgo II is very similar to Unit III from Orgo I except over the course of the year. You essentially have to memorize mechanisms and reagents, along with other small stuff.

I mean if you’re only doing the frat and like one or two other ECs then you’re fine. It’ll be more busy but you’ll have to face it at some point as a pre-med. If you’re looking to do research or a part-time job as well that might be a different story.

Last day to drop a class w/o a “W” is Jan 26th. To do it all you have to do is go to Wolverine Access and the same way that you “Add” classes to your schedule, there should be a tab to “Drop” classes. Just go to that and follow instructions. It’s only after Jan 26th that you have to go into advising and fill out forms to drop the class (and get the W on your transcript).

Your load is doable.

If need be, one or two W’s on your transcript won’t hurt. I have a friend who has had W’s in many semesters, including one semester with all W’s.

If you wait until after the late drop deadline but before the last day of classes, you can still withdraw from the entire term without having to petition.

@umcoe16

Are you sure?

Grad students can drop anytime before the last day of classes without petition. However, I believe undergrads have a different rule. He is a list of the key dates from this past semester (from the CoE)

You can switch the humanity course to P/F even after the withdrawal deadline that you can focus on the other core courses without worry the grade of that course.

@777Blue77 yes you are permitted to withdraw from the entire term without a petition after the ninth week of classes until the last day of classes. You will get W’s for all classes. However, at that time it will have to be either all or nothing. You won’t be able to just drop an individual class without a petition. My friend who did that is in LSA.
