NESCAC Football Recruiting

Both my sons play NESCAC football and were admitted via ED. Agree with most of the points above. No need to submit supplemental essays, but do take the application process seriously. Unless an injury was career-ending, I think both coaches would stand by the offer.

You may have read that Coach Ritter is retiring at the end of this season, so perhaps that may be a factor for you. Bowdoin is improving under Coach Hammer, but is not known for commitment to investment in athletics.

Has your some received any other NESCAC offers? FWIW, my sons accepted their offers in Sept/Oct.

Seeking advice for D3 and NESCAC football recruiting for my 2023 son. He has three football offers, one from a NESCAC school, one he has declined. So he had two remaining offers, coaches have told him he could decide either ED1 or ED2. How does the later ED2 deadline affect recruiting? He is still in communication with other coaches as well, one of whom have indicated that he may get an ED2 offer. Wondering how many of the NESCAC schools are done by ED1 round in filling up their roster?

This will vary, your S needs to ask the coaches. I expect some of his offers have deadlines to accept, make sure he knows what those are. He should also ask where he stands with each coach who hasn’t made an offer yet.

Does he have an offer from his first choice school? Or is he waiting for something better? Of course the something better may never come along.

He does not yet have an offer from his first choice. He has been in communication with all coaches from other schools. Just wondering about when to make the commit to one of his known offers, and how much longer to wait. Since he has a deadline of ED2, that gives more time to decide.

The question is whether you are sure the coach(s) have committed to keep your son’s spot open through E2. Or perhaps they only committed that if he applied ED2 and they had a spot, they would support him. This is worth a direct conversation unless it has already been made clear that the “offer” is open until the ED2 deadline.

He has been told the offer stands until ED2. We have written documentation from one of the schools that he is guaranteed admission (from admissions department) and has substantial merit based aid. Just wondering how much longer others have waited with ED2 deadlines with athletic recruiting before committing?

I would be interested in knowing what school this is
this is not typical, at least at highly rejective schools.

Happy to answer privately by messaging.

I had similar thoughts. A written guarantee of admittance prior to actually committing and applying does not seem typical from highly selective schools.
