I am looking for some input, especially from those who are either on the track for Neural Engineering or Neuroscience. My end goal is to receive my PhD in Neuroscience and find a career in research.

However, currently I am an undergrad in my second year at a community college in Chicago. I am a 3.9 GPA student and only not a 4.0 because I was sick for a good portion of the term. I work in the biology lab at the school and I am president of the honor society. I don't want to leave Chicago yet, so I am looking to transfer to three schools with all very different undergrad majors.

Northwestern: Cognitive Science
Illinois Institute of Technology: Biomedical Engineering w/a concentration in Neural Engineering
University of Illinois at Chicago: Neuroscience

My number one school currently is IIT mostly because I can focus more on the sciences and mathematics rather than taking an obsessive amount of second language (four semesters) or liberal arts "fluff" classes like I would have to at UIC and Northwestern. UIC, when it comes to research would be my second choice because the focus is marked in the direct studies I want to be in, however, it is not a very well known school. Northwestern is very well known, however, I don't feel like the program is as strict as I would like it to be.

What school should I focus more of my attention on so that PhD programs at other schools will look at me?
