Ok so if anyone would mind responding to this post it would be greatly appreciated.

In short, I want to Major in Neuroscience and Minor in Psychology(Or even Double Major) while also completing the classes required to qualify for Pre-Med.

First, would that be possible here?
Second, how would the workload be?

neuroscience isn’t a major at penn. you can do biology with a concentration in neuro, or you can do BBB, which covers everything you’re looking for (including most, if not all, pre med requirements)

Sorry if this is a silly question, but where would one find a list of majors/minors offered by Penn. for undergraduates.
I checked the website but only found majors/minors for graduate students; there was however, such a list at collegeboard.com.

They have Cognitive Science in addition to BBB. Within that, you can major in Neuroscience.

It’s very easy to fit in all the pre-med requirements with either cognitive science or BBB; I would advise doing cognitive science, because the courses in BBB are filled with striving premeds who will make your life a living hell.

“striving premeds who will make your life a living hell”

really? uh oh…i’m probably going to be a BBB pre med. i guess i can always look into psych.
is biochemistry as competitive as BBB? i really don’t want to get killed.

I’m a freshman intending to major in Bio with a neurosci concentration (originally I had planned on doing BBB) As far as I can tell, the bio route has more overlap with pre-med requirements than BBB, but BBB still has a great deal of overlap. The main differences I can find between BBB and Bio/Neurosci is that Bio requires a thesis, whereas in BBB a thesis is optional; also, in BBB there are different tracks you can pursue, so if you want you can take more psych-focused courses, or you can take more science-heavy courses. With Bio, there’s only the science-heavy option.

Don’t worry about picking a major now; you probably will change your mind after you get here, and the intro courses are more or less the same so it’s easy to switch around.

Look, I don’t think it would be that bad to take the pre-med classes. I’ve gone up against them, and I came out with A’s. You simply need diligence. But is it really worth it?

I mean, is it worth slaving through classes against pre-meds, where the course material is not part of the pre-med track? Because that’s essentially what happens in BBB.

A music major + pre-med classes would be a great route; it will help you stand out when you apply to med school, which is definitely a plus.

“my final goal is just to become a doctor and be able to help people to the best of my abilities, so any road that gets me there is fine.”

I love this comment. So much that I’m half inclined to write it in calligraphy and post it on my wall. Thank you for being a beautiful person!! :D

muerteapablo, thanks for the advice! i’ll definitely look into the music major + pre-med option. my original intention was to double major or major/minor in BBB/music. i’m just afraid a music major = no money in case i don’t get into med school…

what are you majoring in? / are you pre-med?
