Never any response back from a School - bad sign?

I had an interview with a school pretty early last year. I sent two Thank you email to the interviewer with no response. Later, I sent some additional materials to the interviewer and the general admission email after I completed GATEWAY, no response either. Basically I never heard anything from that school afterwards except a few advertising emails. Is that a bad sign that they probably already decided that I’m not a good fit and AO’s attention is primarily focused on applicants with good prospects? Thank you!

If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Interviewers don’t typically reply to thank you emails. If you would want to add additional information, I suggest you send an email to the official admission office email address that you can find on the official website.

Also, keep in mind that especially at this time of the year, AO’s are VERY busy. I didn’t get a response until 2 weeks later.

I am 100% sure that they don’t communicate that they don’t think an applicant is a good fit by simply ignoring their emails!

Now, it could be a “bad sign” in that they are not super responsive and are overwhelmed and don’t have a system in place to communicate efficiently.
But I guess what I’m saying is: if they are dropping the ball with you, they are probably dropping it with others. Probably, just busy though. Still, I don’t love when there is zero response more than once, assuming you allow a few weeks window for response during this busy time. But this says little about you and more about them.

But, unless it becomes a real problem, I wouldn’t worry one tiny bit about it for now. You can explore school admin responsiveness issues post M10.

Got it, many thanks for kind words from both of you!

No problem!

@jane90 if you read my ghosted by the AO-- you’ll see you haven’t been isolated with this experience

I would take “no news” to be exactly that, no news. As others have said AOs are very busy right now. There are many reasons that you might not have heard, some of which are good and some of which are bad. “They just have not gotten to it yet” being the most likely. Of course the pandemic can slow some things down also.

At this point, a lot of students just have to be patient.

Don’t take it personally. These admissions people and teachers are very busy. This is the absolute craziest time of the year right now. Some schools also follow a no-contact policy right before admissions decisions are due.

My son sent thank you emails to all of his interviewers. Only about half of them replied back. He was accepted at all the schools however. So don’t read too much into it.

Didn’t check where you applied but let me guess, Lville?

It means nothing. Fwiw, one doesn’t “reply” to a thank you note. You are thanking someone for something they did for you. They should not have to respond to you for that. (Your notes will probably go in the file, and they reflect well on you, so it’s a positive overall.)

if you sent materials and they were uploaded (or accessed), you are fine.

This, to me, isn’t a matter of being ghosted by an AO, or a sign of disintetest.

I wouldn’t take it as a bad sign in terms of admission, but I might take it as a bad sign in terms of the kind of attention and support individual students get at the school. IMO, there’s no excuse for ghosting applicants, and if you’ve applied to a school that is being responsive, I’d bump them up in your estimation.
