FSU has been rapidly rising in the rankings.
In the 2016 listing, it placed at # 43 for public universities. FSU moved up to No. 38 on the 2017 list. In the 2018 list, it ranked No. 33. In the 2019 listing, it moved up seven spots to #26. In the 2020 rankings, it’s tied at #18 with Pennsylvania State University–University Park, Purdue University–West Lafayette and the University of Pittsburgh.
I prefer the WSJ rankings as they are more driven by hard data like outcomes. FSU does well in USNews because it is getting more and more selective…incredibly cheap tuition for even out of state students. The outcomes 10 years out are however not great. The average FSU grad is making LESS than 50K!
The WSJ/THE rankings have their own host of issues. The average salary data is based on those receiving financial aid, and it’s ten years after starting school. FSU’s numbers are in line with the other state schools. As a comparison, it’s a bit higher (46,400) than Ohio State University (46,100).
“The average FSU grad is making LESS than 50K!”
Which equates to what…$80,000 in CA? Much different cost of living in areas of the South where FSU grads typically reside. Also, FSU educates a host of teachers and performing artists, who earn lower salaries their first ten years.
I"m an alumni from class of '93, and truly enjoyed the FSU experience. I worked for state government for 3 years, then went on to grad school at Notre Dame.
FSU was well received in South Bend / Chicago, where I did an internship and first job.
