She will be fine. Genetics is often in the news—such as whether employers can reject applicants with a genetic predisposition for becoming seriously ill. And Forensics will help her explain CSI to friends.

You may enough tension senior year without her blamingyou for making her take a course she does not like.

oh heavens…I meant I was going to tell you the stuff that R2R told you. Genetics sounds fabulous. I can’t believe what options some of your kids have in their high schools

yabeyabe: I was actually the one pushing the genetics/forensics route; she was concerned about dropping down from honors…she was actually thinking of doubling science so “it wouldn’tlook like I dropped down”…um, no way…

Remaining results? S did not do any early actions, despite my efforts to encourage him to do so! Everything is regular decision, although one may be rolling & another may have a decision within one week of receiving everything. High school does everything via snail mail.

Same here, everything RD. It’s going to be a long couple of months. Fortunately he has a very busy February coming up, so he won’t have time to go too crazy.

Historymom,
My son heard from another school this weekend, which was a pleasant surprise. Accepted to Assumption in Worcester, MA. It was a wonderful boost, during this waiting period. He should also hear from St. Michael’s EA/secondary deadline this week, as well. Then it will be mid to late March for the rest, or so they say. Hoping to hear sooner from Roger Williams, but they warn not to contact them sooner. While we are waiting, and because we are local to Assumption, I think my son may sit in on an Advanced French class to see what it’s like. He was invited to do so in the fall, and we just ran out of time and we couldn’t find a matched schedule time to do it. My son is getting a little nervous about college at this point, and we are very grateful that we narrowed our college searches to a 4 hour drive early on. He’ll still have alot of good schools to choose from [fingers crossed], and yet be able to come home for support on weekends if he wants to have that option.
Good luck with the waiting, everyone. Feeling so much better than the last time I checked in!
Best,
CCL

Congrats on the Acceptance CCL…you guys have sent me on a several searches and it is really quite cool how many schools there are for the kids in our kids’ stat range.

fingers crossed for RW. Did he apply to Providence as well?

Thanks HistoryMom and Yabeyabe2,
Got the wind taken out of my sails just hours after posting…Deferred from St. Michael’s…The letter was kind and all, but honestly, if a school doesn’t like what they see at first glance, and wants to see what better is coming down the road, well, it sort of makes you wonder if it would be a good fit [just being perfectly honest here].
Sure a deferrment from Brown is different than St. Michael’s or UVM, but still…

Yes, there are some great schools for B students. We loved every school my son applied to, so hopefully it will just be a matter of where he feels he fits the best, and also the financial bottom line, too.
Good luck waiting everyone…Look forward to hearing your news, good/bad/or wait some more!
ps: No, my son did not apply to Providence College. It would have been a big reach, though the admission’s counselor did say that because he was applying to a unique major he might have a good shot…

A hidden gem is Wells College (NY) private, has gone co-ed several years ago, about 550 students, the deadline is March 1st, they need males! On Cayuga Lake in Aurora, NY. Thought I would mention Wells for anyone thinking perhaps they didn’t cast a wide enough net & would like a rural small campus, with opportunities to take courses at nearby Ithaca College & Cornell University. A very charming campus with its own waterfront on Cayuga Lake, nice academics too, in Princeton Review’s “Best 371”. Not a 50K, a 38K school, FAFSA only, (so uses the Federal Methodology-FM)

I am sure everybody has heard of Wells Fargo? Henry Wells started the college for women, worth checking into for males or females on this thread.

I know several women who graduated from Wells in the early 80 s when it was a womens college. They loved it and got a great education. Not sure how things may have changed since it went co-Ed.

I remember it had a good reputaiton as a women’ school. It must have a good endowment, as that is a low tuition for such a small school, given that you still need a gym, a soccer field, and other costly items. I am not sure I have heard of a smaller school.

We had a student from our little rural public go clear cross country to Wells. She had a fabulous experience. Dad’s a teacher and mom is SAHM and they found it affordable so am assuming they offer nice needs based packages.

S has a 3.04 UC GPA and is applying to UC Riverside. His SAT is 1900. Yes, his GPA is on the low side, but his grades have slowly improved. His senior grades are currently close to a 4.0. Is there any chance that S will be offered acceptance?

mrdttt^^ If your son fulfills the a-g requirements he has a chance. If he is denied he will likely get an offer of admission to UCM. D was denied at her UC campus choice last year but was offered a spot at both UCR and UCM. Her UC GPA was higher but her SATs lower than your S’s.

You said he “Is applying.” Did you mean “has applied” because if he hasn’t it is too late.
