Got a letter in the mail from the Dean. Apparently they are adding honors programs to every major at the academy and giving cadets the option to add minors...lol fun times

Yeah, I got the very same letter. I believe it was a form letter, since it said something along the lines of "I would like to congratulate you on your appointment, and if you decide to accept, you will have the opportunity to experience our new honors program"
I do decent in school, but I'm wondering if honors classes might just be unnecessary stress. I'm not going to West Point to just to get an honors degree, I'm going because I want to become an Army Officer.

I cannot imagine the classes being harder...gadZ!

I believe the honors program will require 2 extra courses (2 theses) in addition to the standard courses that are required for a major.

ya I dont mean this badly but I very much doubt that I will go for a honors major. It's not that Im lazy, but I dont see the point in working myself that much harder. The academics at West Point are quite adequate and I work myself plenty hard at HS

Agreed. I love challenging myself, but I'm sure the basic level courses will provide for more than enough of a mental stimulus. Doing more than that would not be more beneficial, rather I'd assume detremental to our success as cadets. I does depend on the cadet though I'm sure. USMA brings in the best, and I'm sure a few would breeze through honors courses.

Well don't count it out. College is a whole lot different than high school. When you pick your major - you specialize. Hopefully, it is a subject that you enjoy and are passionate about. You would be surprised to find out how hard you will work when you are really passionate about your subject.

Thats very true, thanks for the advice "mom" ;) but seriously, it was good advice

I would agree that when I'm doing something I love I'm willing to put a lot of work into it.
