New and confused

I'm new to this site, but I've been trying to find colleges for a while now. I've tried college searches like college board's, but they weren't very reliable.

My grades: 4.0 unweighted, 4.87 weighted (on a 5.0 scale), mostly AP classes
My scores: 2310 new SAT (800 CR, 740 M, 770 W), 1540 old SAT
Location: I'd like to stay fairly close to home (North Carolina). I'm willing to go up north, I think, but not too far west. Not in a major city, but near a city with lots to offer.
Size: I'd like a medium size college. 3000-7000 students.
Academics: Good biology and history programs. Lots of study abroad options. Small or medium class sizes. Research encouraged.

That's all I can think of. Any suggestion will be helpful.

Johns Hopkins

Davidson is smaller than 3000, but close to home for you and an excellent school. Also, what about Duke?

Washington University

Macalester
Its in the Twin Cities- and folks I know who have looked at it- love it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone! :)

I had planned on applying to UNC Chapel Hill; it's a bit big, but I liked it when I visited. I haven't really looked into any of the other schools mentioned, so it's good to have suggestions! :)

By a good college guide like the US News Ultimate guide and then look up colleges in states that you'd consider living in.
