New building in UMINN. thoughts?

"Herbert M. Hanson Jr. Hall will provide a state-of-the-art home for the Carlson Undergraduate program. The building will open on September 25, 2008. Hanson Hall will include an atrium, technology-rich classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, an undergraduate lounge, a business career center, and rooms for students to meet recruiters. Hanson Hall will also provide a home to the College of Liberal Arts’ Department of Economics."

how big of an impact will it actually make?
lower fees and new hall = ?
more students? less competition for admission?
thoughts?

I'm not really sure how big of an impact it will have, but I'm sure it might attract a few people. I know when Huntsman Hall opened at Wharton a couple of years ago it received a lot of attention.

i think like 50% more students will be admitted into carlson so there will be more people and a little less competition.

Because the number of applicants to carlson has increased a lot in recent years the quality of admitted students will likely stay high, but the standards may decrease slightly compared to previous years.

i think the new building will probably make it one of the best undergrad facilities, but it's not going to make the program much more prestigious. i dont see anybody ranking minn above wharton anytime soon.

Carlson began admitting 50% more students for the incoming class of Fall 2007 and the academic profile stayed the same. Average high school rank stayed the same(top 5%) and Average ACT went down only slightly(28). With all the new changes going on at Carlson, Its sure to become even more competitive in the coming years.
