New College of Florida?

Does anyone know anything about the New College of Florida? It's the only, supposedly, decent LAC in Florida (if not the only one at all) and it accepts Bright Futures (so I wouldn't have to pay a lot, if any). Specifically, how are it's chemistry and biology departments and it's relationships with med schools (acceptance rates)? Looking at the student averages I am pretty confident I can get in, so it's a safety if my financial aid gets screwed up if I get accepted to Williams, Amherst, UNC-CH, Pomona, or Tufts, . It's got a tiny endowment so I don't think that bodes well for research. How does it compare to UCF and UF? Really any info you can give is really appreciated.

I’m curious as well.

What is NC like on the non-academic side? Does it have much of a “campus life”?

Bumppetty.

Try Rollins instead.

NC might be the only PUBLIC LAC in Florida. Rollins is a LAC in gorgeous Winter Park, FL so it has all the best of the LAC atmosphere plus the great weather of FL. It has outstanding FA and a sterling rep in the community.

Sun+fun+a great education.

NC, in my opinion, is probably a good school but outside of Sarasota not many people have even heard of it which, for some reason, some people don’t mind when selecting a school.

You can get a very good public education at UCF although it has all the same probs a big, public school has.

UF is an outstanding school at a truely amazing value if you are in-state. I’d take UF in a heart beat over any college mentioned in this thread with Rollins a close second.

It’s got a tiny endowment so I don’t think that bodes well for research.

Research is funded by grants…so endowment doesn’t always indicate level/amount of research.

Many publics don’t have large endowments, but they have research because it’s funded by grants.

What is the “campus life” like at New College? I’m concerned that it might not have much “school spirit”.

Washington Monthly ranks it as the 30th best LAC in the country. But idk how reputable that is, they rank Amherst as 5th  and US News ranks it as 99th.

Rollins is ranked as the top Regional college in the South. How does that compare with other top LACs?
