Could anyone tell me how difficult the “New College” is to get in to? I met with an admissions counselor this past weekend at UA when I took my official tour (and absolutely LOVED it) and we discussed the possibility of taking that undergraduate route but he had not mentioned application was neccessary.

An application is necessary, but I don’t think it’s difficult to get into. If your stats are good, I think you’ll be admitted.

What are your stats?

Around a 3.0 if only slightly over =/ I have a 1920 composite SAT though. On the New College specific site it doesn’t mention stats as an admissions factor but I’m sure like you said, they weigh in. It mentions commitment and degree of seriousness along with the university’s capacity to fit my desired majors needs and avalibility. I’m attempting to construct a program in the field of Sports Administration/Law. The counselor I spoke with said that a combo of kinesiology, marketing, managing, and athletic training was very managable and he’s heard of similar curriculum’s being created before. I’m just not sure of the competitiveness of the college itself lol

We visited the new college, but I’m not sure what to think about it at this point. It seemed a little new-agey, but with S’s varied interests it deserved a look.

Deltagirl…you should be fine. Is that your weighted GPA. Either way, you should be fine.

Idinct…LOL…new agey! In reality, New College is just a way for a student to customize a major. It can be great for those who are pre-med, pre-law, or have some other career interest where mixing classes from different majors can better prepare you for your career.

If I were pre-law, I would definitely consider New College and mix a variety of PolySci, History, Math, Econ, English, Philosophy, and Science courses.

m2ck, that is good to know as S will be looking to combine probably or minor. It reminded us of a small NE college that we visited that didn’t have majors and was not a good fit for S, although we thought it would be. Sounds like we were off the mark.

IIRC, there is also an interview component for admission to New College. I don’t think the interview is anything like the weekends for CBH or UFE, but an interview nonetheless.

Yes…my older son did a New College interview when he considered that at one point. It’s not a big deal and probably doesn’t require a special trip for an OOS student. Could probably be done during Bama Bound or something.
