New Dartmouth FinAid Initiative

"Key elements of the initiative, which will go into effect for the coming academic year, include:

Free tuition for students who come from families with annual incomes below $75,000

Replacing loans with scholarships

Need-blind admissions for international students

Junior leave term with no earnings expectation."

Wow Bluebayou, you beat me to it. Just about to post. Received "Breaking News" from Speaking of Dartmouth.

The main difference is the Need-blind for international students as well as Junior leave term with no earning expectation.

For the middle class families, we will have to see if the packages will be as good as those mentioned by Harvard and Yale.

Replacing loans with scholarships saves about at least $19k (the new Stafford limits) over four years....

What I am guessing is for families that are making $75k or less, if their EFC is greater than the cost of room and board, they will probably have to pay room and board out of pocket as the tuition will be free (this is still not a bad deal for middle class families).

i'm soooooooooo excited!!!! this will really help my family out even though it only applies to my financial aid package for senior year.

Great for INTERNATIONALS! and I'm an international applying for 2012

For internationals who get in ;)

great for POOR internationals..

what the.... they should reconsider our apps...

ajayc if financial aid was the ONLY issue with your application they would have atleast differred you....

As a great admirer of Dartmouth, I'm really impressed with this new finaid policy. It really shouldn't be surprising though since the day before they announced that they had hit 1,000,000,000 dollars in alumni contributions. (wow thats a lot of zeros)

go D!

miamigirl: I guess you are correct. :(
