To answer your question FreshElephant, yes and no.

Whitman is no doubt a very desirable place for most underclassmen on campus (incoming freshmen and rising sophomores). Unfortunately for us in the class of '10, pretty much only those from Butler and Mathey College have the right to draw in there, and the rest, Forbes, Wilson, and Rockefeller, must hope for the minute chance that there will be an opening.

What really makes Whitman stand out are the rooms and the fact that the dorms are new and very integrated into each other, giving it the old residential college feel (it has the look as well). 60% of the rooms are singles, which is pretty much unheard of anywhere else on campus, and there is an abundance of 2-room doubles as well as 3- and 5-room quads.

As for the other things, most res colleges have kitchenettes, laundry rooms, and study rooms. I'm certain each residential college has its own library + computer cluster too. All res colleges have wireless in the dorms. A dining hall goes without saying, although the quality of each residential college's food varies immensely. Forbes College's food is tough to beat. In addition, most residential colleges have music and arts related facilities. Wilson College has a Blackbox theater, various music practice rooms, and a ceramics studio. Rockefeller College also has a theater. As for walkways, courtyards, and arches, this is Princeton.

Now, as for the other 'luxuries', including internal temperature control with ceiling heating/cooling units, the pizza oven, and the bridge, which led many Princeton students to believe that Whitman would have a moat (we wished), are definitely unique to Whitman College.

So when you get your room assignments in June/July, good luck to you. You'll have a better chance of getting a Whitman room than me.
