New ECs and test scores; Chance me for Brown ED

Hey all,

So I’ve pretty much made up my mind that I am going to apply early to Brown this fall with a concentration in Literary Arts (I think this will help since it is a humanities concentration and because more girls than guys apply to it). I’m pretty sure you all have seen my chance threads before, so Ill make this as short and sweet as possible.

Gender: male

Residence: CA

income bracket: ~$250,000 (probably will have to pay full tuition)

ACT: 32C, 33 superscore (Don’t know if I should send both tests or if I should retest)

GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.6W

I take the most rigorous course load offered

ECs:

-freerunning/parkour: 20hrs a week, highest ranked between the three academies, just hired to become a coach, compete in national competitions

-piano: ~3-4hrs a week, take lessons once a week, in my school’s jazzband, have been a participant in the National Piano Guild for two years

-photography club:~4hrs a week, president, have a gallery at the end of the year

-astronomy club:~2hrs a week, Vice President

Thanks for chancing me! I’ll chance back if you ask me to

Bump lol

Why Brown?

@SJNccc for its screenwriting program and over all fictional creative writing program

I think you have a decent chance. Your academics are fine, and that parkour thing sounds interesting. Definitely emphasize that in your essays. Good luck!

For Brown the 25th percentile ACT score is 29, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 34. To improve your chances I recommend you take the ACT one more time in the fall. Good luck.

It’s going to be up to you to weave an application and supp that make you interesting, shows how you think, makes them want to have you in their community. That’s more than stats and activities, they’re only a start.

Yes, you’ll need a good Why Brown. Other than the major and “because more girls than guys apply to it,” do you know Why?

And writing something that will get “published,” unvetted, (most kids are self publishing, paying for it, never reach an industry review level,) isn’t an ace in the hole.

PS. I keep saying this: at elites, it’s not the composite. How are your sub scores?

@lookingforward 34E 30M 31R 34S 30W (32R super score)

@Ldoponce since I haven’t taken my SAT II tests, would it be better for me to study for those for the fall or to study and retake the ACT in the fall? I don’t think I will have enough time to study for 3 tests at once so which ones would be better to study for?

Could I get some more input?

Anything helps

Also forgot to mention that I was offered a spot on the Olympic committee for parkour because it will be an Olympic sport in 2024

Your EC’s aren’t stellar but your free running is quite unique and could set you apart, especially if you can show your passion for it.
I think if your essays are great you’d probably have a decent shot

@ap012199 - Considering the tests are 3 weeks apart (ACT 9/10 and SAT 10/1), I think you have time to study for both. What subject tests are you taking? If you study for a math subject test, then it carries over for the math section of the ACT which is the section you need to focus on anyhow.

If you study for a math subject test, then it carries over for the math section of the ACT which is the section you need to focus on anyhow. Ask your parents to hire a tutor for you that focuses on ACT math and has experience preparing students for the math subject test. If you were already working with someone before you tested, then hire another person. Math is the easiest section to raise your score in.

OP, I mean this nicely, but if you’re applying ED to a tippy top, you really need to learn more about what the college looks for. You need to dig into what they say, the sorts of kids they brag about, to learn what they value, and what makes you a fit. Not just ask here. Look at the CA and supp(s) to see how you get a chance to present yourself, in line with that. What’s your spark?

You have a lot of running, but short of being a recruited athlete, they will still look for more. (And that’s more than being a male aiming for humanities.) Even kids with an Olympic shot or acting careers have to pass the full muster. Try to learn what that is.
