sorry NC did not mean to offend you, I’m not saying it’
s always going to produce a better, moral person than a non-catholic school, i’m just pointing out it’s good intentions to do so and strong focus on it.

And super i would have to disagree and argue that BC is among the elite group just near the bottom of that group.

soccersamdude BC is not elite…as a matter of fact University of Texas and other schools ranked below are better than BC in sports/academically. BC is slightly overrated in my opinion.

that is not true at all…one thing you gotta understand is that there are 2200 freshman and it’s stats for sat/gpa are still good. If it lowered the # and only kept say the best 1200 the stats would skyrocket (hence the reason small liberal arts colleges like amherst have amazing stats and lower acceptance rates), which is why i think those are not good indicators of an elite institution. Texas? Ok now you must be pulling my leg lol

soccersam-- BC is a great school, and even if it were overrated, being solidly in the top 50 of 6000+ institutions of higher education in the United States (and being a household name in most regions) is nothing to be laughed at. It’s hard to say it’s not “elite”. These boards, and people in general, tend to talk about a “hyper-elite” and lose perspectives against all other colleges. Your love for BC is plenty justified and it is a great school, but that doesn’t make it better than the schools Alexandre posted. Maybe better for some individuals, but BC is definitely a notch below that list. Fit is important, but there are some pretty clear tiers, and I don’t think BC fits in the one that Alexandre constructed and I don’t think many people would argue that it does.

im sorry rjk but you are COMPLETELY wrong on this one. Either you are joking around or go to texas and are just trying to boost up it’s rep.

First of all, BC is way better than BU so i don’t really see where you are coming from here? rofl.

Second, even BU is better than texas so i don’t see what in the heck you are talking about. Stop being jealous BC got ranked 16th it is well deserved and jist because some schools got under-ranked this time, there is no arguing that BC is EASILY among the lower-elites.

Edit: i agree with you modest it is a notch below i would consider it lower-elite

i still don’t even know what texas school you are talking about, enough said there.

thesmart1 i agree with what you said maybe a notch below but still lower-elite. No one says only 20 schools can be considered elite, there are alot of schools that are pretty even in caliber

Texas has a higher ranking business school than BC. Texas is also top rated in the sciences and engineering and a plethora of other programs. BC has what? a decent business school and humanities program? Sports are better at Texas as well. If we were to compare BC to Texas on a program for program basis i would bet you that Texas would win almost every category, if not all. Nice try. BC is a solid above average school as i stated before but certainly not an elite school.

I am from Mass by the way and got into BC as a transfer student but chose WPI over it = P

I have to agree with soccer on this one although not a huge fan of Boston myself (go yanks!) but BC is much better than Texas…maybe the business school at Texas is better but that’s about it :(.

rjkofnovi, I think you will have to pull out the rankings for UT Austin for its program i know the list is impressive, moreso than BC : p. LOL soccersam i have many friends at BC and they are all cool. What happened?

Soccersam, not everyone here is ****ed about the Ivies. To me, I could care less if BC is ranked 16 or whatever. That’s not the issue with this ranking. There are many factors that could discredit this ranking, but the most glaring one is the EXTREMELY low ranking of many other top University’s, such as Dartmouth, Georgetown, Michigan, etc. I’ll use my school, UMinn, as an example. UMN is ranked on this list in the 500’s. In USNews, it’s currently 61, and should be moving into the mid 50’s this time around. On the ranking of world universities that USNews recently released (actually they copied it off of another source), UMN was ranked 31 among American universities and colleges. In the ARWU rankings, it was ranked number 28 in the world. And on top of all that, it’s among the top 15 research Universities in the United States. Yet Forbes ranks UMN behind Indiana University in Pennsylvania and in the same tier as Wartburg College and Oregon Tech?!?! And oh yeah, it’s also ranked far behind one of it’s own branch campuses (the University of Minnesota- Morris)!! This is just one of many, many examples.

So there ya go. I don’t care where BC or the Ivies are ranked in relation to each other. The simple fact is that this is THE WORST college ranking. Period. Please give it up. We all know BC is a great school, but just because they listed it as the 16th best does not in any way validate this list.
