Don’t do the whole fake “THIS WILL BE THE HARDEST CLASS EVER” spiel you guys love to do. Don’t give us reasons to drop- encourage us to stay and be challenged.

oh and don’t say “in my opinion, this is the best class at _______ high school”
i feel like i heard it in all of my classes lol
explain why history is important and how it relates to current times

My AP Civics teacher is probably the best teacher I have. Both are willing to joke around a little, but they know when it is time to get to work. In Civics, we were talking about the State Constitutions of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, and she was able to relate what we were learning about then to the current presidential election. That may not be too difficult because it was Civics, but it certainly made the class more interesting

Be yourself. Please don’t be someone you’re not. High school kids can see right through that. It annoys us more than anything.

Be interesting/unique. My AP US History teacher was a Vietnam vet with 2 Purple Hearts and highly decorated. He was slightly deaf and never assigned any homework. All he would do is walk around class yelling/lecturing on the topic with us taking notes. He was BRILLIANT and his notes were absolutely amazing. We all passed the AP with flying colors. His tests consisted of multiple choice or essays. No busy work. That’s the sign of a great teacher. We respected his ability to teach, his ability to not give a damn about anything but teaching, and his overall attitude about history. The point of this way to say,
a. Be yourself
b. Don’t give busy work. Annoying and doesn’t teach anything.

^yea agreed…teachers who give busywork are just setting themselves up for incomplete assignments etc. if you can’t teach, adding more hw is not going to help the situation a lot.

Don’t act like you don’t no what you are doing and don’t mess up with tests answers and stuff. It really bothers me when the class is correcting the teacher and I am sure the teacher doesn’t feel to great about that either. And teach the curriculum and give ALOT of notes and rarely any worksheets. All 9th grade i had worksheets on top of worksheets. I personally would much rather take notes from an interesting teacher! I hope that helps.
