New Jeopardy host preference? / Jeopardy updates

methinks it was some trash-talking (joke) from James Holzhauer who also tweeted this after the announcement of Richards and Bialek:

“Also new for next season: contestants can submit two Final Jeopardy responses in case the first one causes public backlash”

Alex got to advertise Colonial Penn $9.99 insurance.

@saillakeerie your ranking is the best!

I’m suspecting a NFC North fan!

I’m okay with the new hosts. There were some I knew I would have no interest in ever watching again but luckily they weren’t in that group.

Matt is having no problem against his opponents . At least some of the more recent ones seem to be putting up a fight and get In there with correct answers.

Matt has grown on me but there are times when it seems that because of his quick buzzer skills, he buzzes in early (because he thinks he has a good chance of getting the question right) . He clearly gets a few extra seconds at times then to think it through and come up with the correct answer.

What always cracks me up at home is when none of the three vetted contestants gets what seems pretty easy. Apricot! Come on now!

I didn’t think you could buzz in early. The buzzers are live after the question is read. I think I read somewhere that if someone tries to buzz in early their buzzer is locked out for some short period of time.

On another note, I am amused when there is a category that is easy to me, but very difficult for contestants under 30. Or similarly, when there is a category like “Best Songs by A Singer I’ve Never Heard Of”, the kids clean up and the oldsters can just watch.

As I understand it, contestants cannot buzz in until the host has finished reading the clue. So you cannot buzz in early in that sense. But you can buzz in before the answer has come to you and I think Matt does that. Idea is that the answer will come to you by the time you are acknowledged and time has expired for you to respond. Sometimes it doesn’t work well.

Matt misses a fair number of responses. But he does very well in the clues at the bottom (hardest clues and those which allow him to rack up a lot of dollars). He has also missed 5 or 6 final jeopardy questions in his 16 wins. But games have been runaways so it hasn’t mattered.

Today he really seemed to be a little gun shy on bets. Lost $34k and 37k in final jeopardy in last 5 games or so. On daily doubles today he bet little when he was up big and could have afforded to risk more. But no one can complain about his results.

I often find myself thinking the bottom clue is easy. But if you know the answer, its easy. Not if you don’t. And no doubt there are entire categories that are total whiffs for me. Some are current pop culture ones but not all of them.

I didn’t mean Matt can buzz in early before allowed. I meant he knows how to work the buzzer quickly .That is an advantage when you have been around awhile. And I do think he has used that skill to get a few seconds to answer a question. He’s very skilled and has knowledge on so many things. He’s definitely impressive. I don’t see him going away any time soon.

Long live, Troy Aikman!

Colonial Penn is a legitimate insurance company, not an unproven product being hyped by a “Neurologist”. Record and freeze frame the spot and read the fine print at the bottom.

The Prevagen ads that we see in the Boston market quite often during Jeopardy make me cringe as much as Bialik’s ad for the memory aid snake oil she pushes. They have the same “this product is not proven to do anything” warnings.

‘Like Choosing a Pope’: How Succession Got Messy at ‘Jeopardy!’

The decades-old game show, TV comfort food for many, has been rocked by drama over who would replace the late Alex Trebek.

Matt finally got challenged on Friday’s show. I was happy he won for a strange reason: that woman was WAY WAY WAY too animated----watching her was tiresome and would have been painful to have to watch her play again. Matt’s a bit strange, but not as annoying as she is/was.

I grew up watching Jeopardy - like in the waaayyy back Art Flemming hosting days (coincidentally he, like beloved Alex Trebek died of pancreatic cancer) - I don’t actually care who hosts, as long as the show continues. I happen to be a fan of Mayim Bialik, and other than watchin his stint as fill in host, know nothing about Michael Richards. I wish all current and future hosts of Jeopardy the best of success.

fwiw, I was prepared to dislike Joe Buck based on this thread and DH’s description of his performance with baseball, but we wound up actually liking him. Too little, too late though. We missed Michael Richards’ stint byt really liked Amy.

FWIW, and perhaps some users on this thread may remember, but I was reading some stories on the internet (I know. I know), and it seems Alex was not the universal first choice of fans when Jeopardy! was relaunched. Whether because of an attachment to Art Fleming, or because of Alex’s lack of success with other game shows, who knows? I think the franchise will survive.

Happy to hear Mayim is in the mix. Nerd girls rock!

I didn’t watch any of the guest host trials. But glad Ken Jennings wasn’t selected.

TMZ claims they wanted Mayim full time, but she was too busy.

Alex was a game show host. He’d done a few others, and he was a very fast talking guy who wasn’t seen as an intellectual. The week of shows they had over xmas weeks this year were the first season and a very different vibe to the show. Alex grew into it and these people will too.

Drew Carey is no Bob Barker, but people still watch Price is Right.

Now replacing Pat Sajak? That will be hard!

Replacing Vanna will be hard too🤷🏻‍♀️

I suspect back in the day there were those who said Bob Barker was no Bill Cullen and Pat Sajak was no Chuck Woolery and Vanna White was no Susan Stafford. OK, maybe not the last one. But life goes on.
