Yes! I was hoping that Matt would not collapse that night of all nights!
Yes, Me too. I’m sure she’s a very nice woman but I could not take too much more of her . I’m just glad somebody finally made it a competition and I thank her for that!
DH and I have recorded the shows for years and binge watch them each weekend.
Matt is kinda fun to watch I think. He’s definitely quirky but great breadth of knowledge.
I think James was quirky too though.
Yes, great seeing Matt challenged in last show.
But very thankful the way too cheery woman did not win.
I liked Joe Buck, is that his name? I’m not into whatever sports controversy he inspires so I didn’t really know him before. He did a great job, IMO. I like Mike Richards as well. I was very disappointed in and for LaVar. A shame he hasn’t really aged well, it seems.
FE: The uber-cheery woman from Friday
We have a since-passed on relative who LOVED Wheel of Fortune and tried out for the show. It was obvious that his deadpan, laconic Yankee personality was not what they were looking for, and as much told him so. The woman from Friday’s personality would be more in line with Wheel as opposed to Jeopardy. Great Jeopardy players are like machines—it’s about knowledge and hand-eye coordination, not how bubbly you can act.
Agree. She may have been fine for Wheel of Fortune(and you know she’s not coming back again even if she wins). Same with a show like Price Is Right.
Funny how so many of us felt the same way about her. Hope they do find more competitive contestants like her though to go up against Matt when the new season starts.
Is it just me or have the challengers in the past month been mostly “duds”.
Also Matt has become more conservative in Final Jeopardy betting after betting $30,000 one night and getting the answer wrong (but still winning).
No, I have felt the same way. Wondering how many of them even were able to get through to become contestants. Just not competitive at all.
Maggie Speak was the longtime Jeopardy contestant coordinator. She retired in 2020 after 25 years at Jeopardy. She seemed to have a real knack for figuring out who had the personality as well as the brains to be successful on Jeopardy. I have felt that this year’s contestants were not very memorable. I attributed it to multiple hosts and a new contestant coordinator (don’t know who that is).
Also for the longest time contestants were limited to Southern California and vicinity due to pandemic travel restrictions.
Maybe Maggie needs to come out of retirement! Good info to know about a new coordinator. Also, the travel restrictions I’m sure did not help. Good reminder on that.
So much drama going on with Mike Richards. Now the Anti Defamation League is calling for an investigation.
I am probably being cynical but thought it was pretty coincidental that 18 games in, they finally found a contestant that was even remotely competitive with Matt. And just before they went on break. I know I was getting tired of the lack of competition.
Wonder if Mike Richards will survive this. I just hope if they decide to replace him, it’s not with LeVar
( there’s still pressure out there to make him the host). I like him but thought he had a very disappointing guest host performance.
Saw something on one of the network news shows this morning that alleged that the top choice of Jeopardy fans to be the new host is Lavar Burton. I dispute this----Lavar is the top choice among Lavar Burton fans, but he underperformed big time.
If that was the poll in The Boston Globe it showed 14% wanted Levar. It was higher than anyone else but hardly the overwhelming preference that the clickbait headline claimed.
Anyone who remembers watching Roots, or had kids who grew up watching Reading Rainbow, or are Star Trek fans certainly have a soft spot for Burton, but man, he underperformed hugely!!!
Are those still clamoring for Burton to be host his die hard fans who are blinded to his abysmal performance? Did they even watch that week?
Not sure—I compare it to going to a concert to see a beloved act, and then not being able to deal with the fact that he/she/they didn’t put on a good show.
After reading this article I hope they replace Mike Richards. Normally “drama” might fall under the “any publicity is good publicity”, however I feel this whole competition for hosting duties has been greatly tarnished. As described in the article, LeVar Burton’s and Ken Jenning’s treatment is suspect.
In my opinion the Mike Richards selection ‘adds to’ and may exacerbate viewer feelings of being manipulated. As servmom said in her “cynical” comment, is it a coincidence that Matt finally had a competitive opponent? Is it real or is it a form of reality tv? (I wanted to write Memorex, but that would date me.)
And what about Laura Coates??
I hope Richards is replaced. The more stuff that comes out about him, the worse he is.
I like LaVar Burton and many people do, but I agree that he just didn’t do a very good job with this. IMO a lot of people vote on who they “like” rather than who really did the job well. And they “dislike” people based on their own prejudices (whatever they may be).
Ken Jennings was not my fav, but he would be better
