New Jeopardy host preference? / Jeopardy updates

I really like Ken better. I don’t like Mayim’s awkward pauses before telling someone if they got the answer right. I think she’s trying to be dramatic but it’s just annoying.

Amen! Those pauses interrupt the flow of the game, especially if someone is on a run of consecutive correct responses. When she does that pause, I’m perplexed, assuming the response was wrong, particularly when I KNOW that it was correct!

I cringe every time she says “it’s a daily double” in a sing song kind of way.

She almost does it with daily double questions. Actually, when she pauses, I think the contestant almost ALWAYS gets it right. I don’t need the suspense.

I am reminded that when Ken hosts, I often forget that there is a host. The show moves so smoothly.

I loved the building houses category, ha. None of them knew what a cantilever is?!?

H did right away. He is an engineer though…

Same here. H got it right away too (also an engineer). I knew he was correct right away and thought of our tour of Fallingwater.

I think Ken is a better host. As we have discussed, I think there are many reasons for that. He has played more games than anyone else and knows the game better than just about anyone else (if not everyone else). He understands the importance of game flow from the contestants’ perspective. I think it also helps that he can answer the questions without cue cards/computer screen. And can add facts to the vast majority of clues/responses in terms of origins, history, etc. His love of the game and for Alex and everything he meant to the show is totally clear. Last night he made a statement to the effect of “and with that correct answer, you are now in the lead” but did it in a way that did not interrupt the pace of the game. Mayim does it in a way that does interrupt and its more forced.

That being said, I think much of the criticism of Mayim I see online (not here but in social media/click bait type pieces) is very much unwarranted. She is criticized for doing many of the same things Alex did. They note when the judges have to overrule one of her “mistakes” by correcting a score. But that has always happened on the show from time to time. She is criticized for how she dresses. That is more of a female thing though not unique to Jeopardy.

Fallingwater is a good example of cantilevers! Also a good example of why architects shouldn’t play structural engineers. :joy:

Right. I’ve heard about the design flaws. Still very interesting. I enjoyed touring Kentuck Knob just as much (fairly near Fallingwater) and seeing all the homes in Oak Park, Illinois (just walking around there). As a structural engineer, I’m sure you look at things that an architect might not have considered. Hopefully, architects these days have to consider or consult about all the structural issues as well. But, I really don’t know since I’m not an architect , OR engineer!

One of the things I enjoy about Jeopardy is learning new things. Some of the questions cause me to dig deeper about a subject I might not have known much about.

I actually like Ken better than Alex. Alex had a way of putting down some contestants for their stupid guesses (and some were stupid) but Ken is always encouraging so they want to try again and again. He doesn’t make a big deal if someone can’t be caught in Final (yes, we can all do the math).

Ken just seems more pleasant to me than the other hosts. I also like Buzzy a lot because he’s fun.

I’m not sure which I found more frustrating: that nobody got the FJ question, or that one contestant confused Marc Cohn with Paul Simon.

Surprised nobody got Final Jeopardy tonight.

Were 3 options. Though only one could be first. Winner did get an inductee who was inducted twice. Just 2 years after the first to do so and thus not the correct answer.

This week is last in this regular season. Have read they will air 6 weeks of repeats (greatest hits of the season).

Based on the clue, there was only one option.

Honored in 1998 as part of a rock group & in 2019 as a solo artist, this singer was the first woman to be inducted into the Hall twice

There are 3 women inducted twice, but only one was in a group. One was part of a duo for the first induction and the other was first inducted as a non-performer. Both 2nd inductions were, as noted, in 2021.

Looks like Ken and Mayim will continue to split the hosting duties on Jeopardy.

I would have preferred just Ken but can live with he and Mayim splitting the hosting for awhile. I am just glad it’s not going to be ONLY Mayim.

H and I were floored! Or maybe we are just older than these contestants :joy:
