I am married to a clergy person, and he was outraged over yesterday’s Final Jeopardy clue. Based on modern scholarship, Sam should have won.
Just curious, what’s your objection? The disputed authorship or that the other epistle has more OT quotations?
Disputed authorship. Hebrews is not considered a Pauline letter. Romans is.
Here is a short article I saw
My husband guessed Romans too. I’m not a fan of religious questions in general for Final Jeopardy. I would have loved to see Sam win last night, so they would have all had 1 win then.
am I the only one who is math-challenged?
Supposedly, this is the best-of-seven tourney, but then its really just the first to three wins. (The World Series is best-of-seven and that means first to four wins…)
It will take 7 games to ensure that 1 of the 3 champions gets to 3 wins.
not if one person wins the first 3 games.
I mean it will ensure someone gets there, not that it’s required. They have to have that schedule in place. Someone certainly could win 3 before 7 games are done.
Is there any precedent for reversing the game outcome after Final Jeopardy? I know occasionally I’ve seen something reversed in the middle of a game , usually announced after a commercial break. If Sam definitely had the right answer, I would hate to see him lose that game over a bad question and bad call. Should his answer have been accepted? I’m not a Biblical scholar so just don’t know.
Yes, there’s precedent. Highly unlikely after a ToC, given the stakes and the amount of passed time since the game.
It seems like it was a bad clue overall. Aside from the authorship question, some people have asserted that Romans has more OT quotations than Hebrews. I’m not going to go count myself, but I’d assume a challenge based on one or both of those items would have been made between tapings.
Maybe tonight will start with a reversal! I’m sure tonight’s results are already out there but I’m keeping away from looking!
My husband agreed with yours.
Well, we now know that answer.
A lot of literary references in FJ recently. Those gen Ed classes have paid off
I’m glad the tournament will go on for at least one more day. Amy and Sam seem like stronger players than Andrew to me in general , but Andrew could win it all. I feel kind of bad for Sam. He’s a very strong player but things have just not gone his way.
This is going on for at least one more game. I do think that if Andrew wins the whole thing, there could be some controversy because of his second win with the Bible question. Sam and Amy still seem like the stronger players to me in general and I hope one of them wins. Who are you hoping will win?
Sam.
They’re all amazing players, and I don’t necessarily hope any one of them wins.
But like @sevmom says, Andrew’s winning might feel tainted by the FJ issue.
If I had to bet between Sam and Amy, I’d bet on Amy; she’s 2 decades younger than Sam, and I believe that matters in J!
It would be exciting to see Sam come from behind and win 3 straight games.
