For matriculation for medical school in fall of 2016, you need to start applying during the summer and fall of 2015. I will be best prepared to take the MCATs summer of 2014, when the old MCAT is still in place. Would medical schools require that I have to retake the new MCATs or would it even be more advantageous to have taken the new MCATs? Should I therefore wait to take the new MCAT instead? I believe if this is true, this is very unfair for our class, as it forces us to take it either during the spring, when we are busy with classes, or during the summer, right before (or if its early decision, while) we start applying for med school.

This is a question you need to ask your health profession advisors at your college.

According to AMCAS, for fall 2016-18, each medical school will be able to decide which version of the MCAT they will accept for admission. It appears likely that if your MCAT score is <2 years old, it will be acceptable to most med schools for fall 2016 admission consideration.
