oh..OK :)

but just don't depend totally on your academic stats...there will be people with fantastic scores and gpa applying to Williams as a match in rd.

I understand that. But it's the gpa that I am most worried about, oh and first sem senior grades. I know a lot of other internationals will have perfect gpas and near-perfect test scores.

Hopefully speaking 3 languages fluently will make up for that.

gandalf, you are into table tennis? I played quite competitive table tennis in Sweden, won lots of tournaments and was ranked pretty high. That's my topic for the common app short answer.

Are you living in India now, or are you in the US?

that's great! show them that you really are interested in table tennis (incidentally, I chose swimming for my short answer)

gandalf, you are into table tennis? Yeah, it's the sport I probably play best - have won a few tournaments too

I live in India.

Look forward to meeting you next Fall (to have someone to play against ;))

thanks for everyone's feedback. I don't like how gandalf said I had a "decent shot". makes me feel all nervous inside. =P Anyway, as the deadline is approaching, who would be willing to edit my essay? PM me or MSN or AOL me... whatever you want. It would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! I'm sorry if that was demoralizing...I've just got into Williams and am really not the best judge of people's chances :)

Bump. Anyone else? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?!?!?!

someone told me Williams will send me info about multi. weekend if i have good academic standings/ test scores. But still, how do they select the applicants from thousands of people across the country?
will my 1530 cut it?

Leonesa:

I am Williams grad from ages ago, and I currently teach at the high school level. Last year we had a post graduate come to our school because he got in to Williams for 2004 but bombed his high school courses in the spring and Williams recinded its offer. So, yes, enjoy your senioritis, but don't put yourself in jeopardy. You will love going to "The College."

scaryyy... what's the exact definition of 'bomb'? My GPA went down from 5.49 to 5.44.. is that bombing?

No, a .05 drop is not a bomb. The student in question allowed C's and D's to show up on his spring record, and The College thought he needed another year to mature.

Best... don't worry about it for now. You'll know soon enough.

Best, it will all depend on whether you took PSAT/SAT (which you did), what you put on the future major section, AKA. Student survey, and whether Williams will count Korean as minority

thanks for the help.
i'm pretty sure koreans will be counted as minority....

Deadline is coming up... any last minute suggestions? ANYONE? =)

bump... bump... bump...

Williams88 -

Thanks for the warning, though I already know that if you take a big drop in your academic performance you risk losing your acceptance. Don't worry, I wasn't talking about getting C's and D's. I would feel way to guilty to go that low! I'm more talking about the difference between an A and an A- in a few classes.

Leonesa--the drop from an A to an A- average in your classes won't hurt you. The drop from an A to a B average in your classes may. The drop from an A to a C average will.

One thing nice about being accepted is that you can study more solely to learn rather than also to make the grade. I think that is really the character of my senioritis. Since 10th grade, I have been learning to learn rather than just get the grade and yet I have been conscious of my grades and did work to get straight A's. Now, I will still learn to learn because that is fun, but I won't stress as much if I am borderline like I may have in the past.

Maybe that clarifies my senioritis a little better. Either way, I for sure have the senioritis in which I can't wait to be done with high school!

Good explanation Leonesa. Unfortunately for me, my school is so competative that you have to lie, cheat, and steal in order to have a shot at top tier schools like Williams. In a sense, I look at this as a negative. School is about learning, not about grades. It seems a lot of kids seem to forget that nowadays.

In other news... I sent off my Williams app a few days ago. I hope for the best! I'm already having thoughts of how I could have improved it.
