NEW scholarship criteria now available...finally.

A friend just told me that the new scholarship criteria are now, finally, on the HU website. Go to the HU homepage, then Admissions, then Tuition and Fees.
Scroll down and you will see the list and new criteria for Capstone, Founders and Presidential.

This should have been out last summer or early fall at the latest. Sigh.

I hadn’t fully foreclosed the option of Howard because - really, how can any college implement new scholarship criteria without letting prospective applicants know? At the very least they could have removed the outdated criteria from the website. I don’t suppose they’d consider refunding application fees to all those who thought they qualified for Legacy or Capstone. [-X

Are they using new SAT scoring? I’m surprised they would do that before the new concordance is published.

@JAMCAFE, that would go a long way towards the healing process. Also, some form of apology and acknowledgement that there was a ball dropped. That’s what great leadership does. If my son knew that he no longer qualified for a scholarship under new criteria, he would not have applied, saving us the application fee, which we could have used for something else. So it appears they’re going to just pretend this never happened. Sigh.

@umsigmadom and @JAMCAFE I really do hope that you and others impacted by the lack of timely scholarship change notice will complain. I would have been livid had it happened to us. I just happen to have one that got in before the change and others who won’t be applying (if at all) until after this irons itself out. For the greater good, I hope you let them know that they missed out on interested kids with active parents due to poor leadership and management of this year’s admissions cycle and aid information.

The bar now is set for, mainly, full rides for tippy top students. Good students who come from families with any ability to pay, it seems, will pay as the EFC is considered for anything other than full ride kids. I am not oppose to putting the resources towards getting ‘the best’ and saving money for those in need. But I also think that it is often AA middle class kids who thrive at Howard and they may become fewer in number with Legacy gone and Capstone changed. I wonder why they did not, for instance, leave the Capstone in place and drop Legacy only (or turn that to EFC based)? I guess only time will tell how this impacts admissions and demographics.

I feel quite bad for you all in limbo. I recall looking up scholarship opportunities and waiting to see it as well. Thankfully, I received presidential, but I know friends who weren’t accepted despite applying earlier than I until 2 weeks ago, not to speak of scholarships. Very messy.

Is that really the new scholarship? Based on the new SAT?
