New Service by MIT Students

Hi all,

I used to frequent this forum religiously back in the day (only 2 years ago, but it seems like forever). I was one of those that would be online the same day of the SATs, comparing answers, be online the same day that decisions came out, be online the same day people chanced each other. But now, I'm happy to say that I've made it to MIT :) A dream school.

However, I'm now back to help.

I'm part of a new MIT startup called College Linking. As a representative (one of 5), we are student college reps basically. A couple times a week, we are online for live chatting with perspective students. I wanted to extend this service to students everywhere around and try and help as much as possible.

We can be found via Google...so I won't spam this forum as I know that this may be construed as advertising. I just wanted to let all of you MIT-perspectives know that alongside such a great resource as CC, there is a supplement site as well.

Best of luck to everyone.

Wait, how is this not advertising?

Haha,

Ok, I suppose it touches on advertising.

But I really wanted to extend this to students looking at MIT…I didn’t really know how to do that…I thought that this would be a good avenue :frowning:

Sorry if this is advertising :(

I’m not sure how the advertising rules on CC work, I’m just trying to figure out how this is anything but advertising :)

As a mod, this is totally fine by me, because it’s a service being announced by a member (not somebody who joined the site to spam), and because cubism4nerds isn’t linking to the site.

Seems cool. Is this a MIT-sanctioned thing? Or is it a business you started?
I hope it remains free

Hi Resilient,

Thanks for signing up. This is currently not affiliated with MIT. It’s run by a couple students that are just volunteering to help out as they knew how hard applying was when we were doing it. So, there were technical difficulties tonight, so we’ll be running a meeting Monday night. Probably 9pm EST, someone will send out an email as a reminder.

Also, thanks Mollie! I appreciate it. p.s. I remember how much you helped me during my application process, so many thanks for that!! :D

Hi all.

Thanks to everyone that has signed up already. Unfortunately the event we were holding yesterday did not pan out due to technical difficulties (figures…haha).

However, we have rescheduled for the 13th at 9PM EST. Come join us as we talk about college from a new perspective.

(Again, just informing everyone of a new service  not advertising ^__^)

Please feel free to PM if you have any questions.

OK, not to pick on you too much, but really -

from Wiktionary:

“To provide information about in communications media, especially about goods or services for sale.”

(ok, maybe not the for sales part, but you should just leave the parentheses out altogether since I think people know what you’re trying to do anyway ; ) )

@oasis,

Haha, touche.

:)

So anyways, we had our event last night!

Though people that showed up weren’t huge, we felt that we got somewhere! For those that did show up, thank you! For those that didn’t, well, it’s free, it’s awesome, and it’s fun. So…you know the drill.

Anyways, to make matters clearer as to what this thing actually is…

It’s a student to student chatting platform that allows you to meet real college students and ask them questions (Live!) about basically anything.
I know last night one student asked a rep about what schools he originally applied to and why.

I just wanted to say that we’re open to all forms of questions :)

I think there might be another event this coming Friday (probably later at night~~) Stay tuned.
