Sad Stuff:
My mother died in beginning of 9th grade from lung cancer and my dad lost his job at the end of 10th grade. Moved to California from East Coast in 11th grade and had to "start" over. Dad is often away of business trips for job 11th to 12th grade and recently shipped my sister to boarding school.

Can you guys chance me for:
Georgetown
Wash U
U Mich
USC
UC San Diego
Boston College
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara

These are my "top tier" schools and not my safeties. Thanks everyone!

I would say Michigan, Davis and Santa Barbara yes.

Your stats are good, but remember, everyone applying to the top schools will have similar stats.

The others are toss ups, given the low acceptance rates of these schools.

I hate to say it, because I deplore the way asians are treated in the college admissions process, but to the colleges, you might be just another asian with a 2100 SAT.

I think you have a better chance the farther away you get from the more sexy West Coast and East Coast schools.

I suggest Carnegie Mellon, Wake Forest, Rochester, Case Western.

Oh thanks! I did even think about Wake Forest, and after doing some research it actually looks pretty nice, along with Case Western.

I think you have a very reasonable list. Write your application essays about hardships for greatest effect - I think you’re in at Michigan, the UCs, USC and probably Boston College. Georgetown and WashU are mild reaches, but nothing extreme - you have a reasonable shot at both.

Great chances for UCs. You might qualify for ELC based on your SAT scores, I believe. Make sure to write about your circumstances. You might want to apply to top tier UCs as well. Your hardships are real and it is incredible you have managed to cope with your loss. Very sorry to hear about your mom.
