Hey guys,

After being deferred and then rejected from Penn this year, I'm heading to Pitt next year. Although I haven't even scheduled yet, but recently I've been entertaining the thought of transferring to Penn since I've been set on it for a long, long time. However, I realize I'm going to make a lot of friends and the thought of uplanting myself after my first year at Pitt makes me weary (if Penn indeed did accept my transfer). Plus, Pitt would be significantly cheaper than Penn, so the money would also be a factor. So...

My question is: Is a transfer application like early decision? If accepted, must you matriculate to that school?

Thanks!

There is no binding admission for transfer admissions.

So you can apply to multiple schools to transfer I’m assuming?

it’s basically regular decision if that’s what your asking

Yes you can apply to as many schools as you want, there are no policies that restrict applications to other schools.

The one thing to be aware of is that the release of decisions and deadlines for committing to a school are not uniform like they are for fr admissions. So there is sometimes the need to ask for an earlier decision from a school, an extension of a deadline from a school, or both; or putting down a deposit at one school while waiting to hear decisions from others. So, unlike fr admissions, double depositing may be necessary and isn’t looked at as unethical.
