New UD Zero Tolerance

UD has a new zero tolerance noise policy instituted by the newark police and backed by Udel president Roselle. I understand it is very controversial and students are very angry. The policy says that even if you have a tv or stereo too high it may be an indications of a party, but even if there is not party or alcohol, the police give you a fine without any warning. I hear the minimum fine is $150 and if this is your first run in with the law it goes on your record as an arrest.

This is harsh. I think it can cause a prospective student to rethink Udel.

Most people are not too worried about it - it's just the hardcore people that are overly concerned. Unless you're being stupid, you won't get a fine. This is no reason to rethink a school clearly.

Yes, please do not rethink Delaware because of the new policy. Like Wealth said, you really have to be stupid to get a fine. DUSC, the student congress on campus is trying to rally support to get rid of it, but I think that they are going about it the wrong way. Last week, they wanted all of us to boycott businesses on main street. The idea was that the businesses would compain to the town, and the town would change the policy. Personally, I don't think that the two are related, and it didn't appear to work.

Oh, is that why all the parking meters were covered with little orange baggie things, and the parking lots were free last Friday? Because the stores on Main Street were trying to counteract a "boycott"? We were down visiting DD for the University Singers concert, and when we went to Main Street for a late dessert, parking all over the area was free. DD said she had heard something about a boycott, but had no idea what it was all about. LOL, that's my girl, totally tuned into what's happening on campus. Not.
